me
It's not really a case, just a front plate and a base. Yes the power is tied to a capacitor with a piece of string. I couldn't find anything to bolt that thing to since it has to be isolated. PVC looks ugly. I'll fix it up eventually. There isn't a power switch. Who needs a power switch anyway? Just unplug it. Bolted to the front plate with some scrap aluminium since the front plate is too thick. Same problem of being too thick for the headphone jack. This is a giant hole above the PC board with another piece of iron bolted on. It's thinner so the jack fits. RCA jacks are bolted to a piece of angle iron. They face sideways. This amp is meant to be unuser friendly. Front of the amp. Here you can see that ugly plate. with a headphone jack sticking out. Insert headphones here. The bolts below hold the amp board in position. You can see the volume potentiometer sticking through. Knobs are for pansies. This META has never had a proper volume knob. Specs of the amp:Single EL2001 buffers. Should replace them with some 2002s since this amp isn't portable now (it weighs at least a kilogram / two pounds). I don't got no 2002s though. I wish I had a way to get some of Voodoochile's ones but I don't got no online payment method. Opamp AD823. I love it. Wire is a bit of that and a bit of this. Could do better but I really can't be bothered. When I build an amp that's better for the SA1000 I'll pay more attention to this part. Everything else is what Tangent documented in his guide. Gain is something like 5. This thing is seriously ugly, but at least the ground is solid. Heh.
aeriyn
Seriously jealous of your Elantec buffies. I'd do untold things to adapt those suckers to work in place of the BUF634s on my pimeta...And yes, that is the ugliest "enclosure" I've ever seen. Why'd you do that? lol, wouldn't an el cheapo plastic enclosure from an electronics store be easier to work with and look better?

And an El Cheapo case don't got the 11mm thick iron ground that this amp got. No RF on this amp. (Well, If I got round to shoving a top on it. There's plenty more iron left). It's easy to make Elantecs work in the PIMETA: Perfboard another . The schem isn't tricky at all.

I can't afford the parts to build another one.
skmetal07
i think it looks cool, in a modern-art kinda way
dex Otaku
This really looks like the kind of equipment anyone who knows me would expect me to be using. [Note their surprise when they see logitech z680s in my apartment. Heck, even I'm surprised I have these. But hey, I needed a cheap solution for mastering surround on, and they were part of payment for a job I did.]
Christopher
So me, you have two computers [the dual monitor/keyboard tipped me off] but you couldn't afford a keen case? Don't tell me that this was your first choice.

Don't tell me that this was your first choice. ←Awesome cases are for people who like looking the same as everyone else. This is cool in it's own little way. By the way, there's three keyboards and two laptops. Total of something like 7 screens. Don't ask. Dad = trading. This computer is different yet again, 19" CRT. All this technology then something that a stone age man could beat together with a piece of flint.
Christopher
True, true. It looks cool, and I dig it - but isn't this prone to degredation? Don't the fallacies of this type of enclosure override the merits?
skmetal07
i don't know if i'd call it an "enclosure"...

It's covered in a few millimeters of paint at the moment so I don't figure it'll be a problem anyway. But, i've got many more whacky ideas, just waitin'
