ptsenior2000
I have a sharp MD camera that uses data minidiscs to take pictures. I was wondering if a Hi-Md player would have the capability of transfering my picture data from the Hi-Md player to my computer. Also, from what I understand, Hi-Md players can be used as pseudo-harddrives with a usb cable. Will I be able to transfer data from a Hi-Md player to a linux based system or vise-versa? Thank you in advance.

ptsenior2000
Any suggestions on how I might be able to upload pictures from the camera to my linux system?
Christopher
Did the camera come with software for this purpose? If so, try running it under WINE or a similiar windows emulator.

If so, try running it under WINE or a similiar windows emulator.←I do have the software discs, but it seems as though they are in japanese. I've tried installing software before with wine to no success. It might be possible to install it though, since the discs are win 3.1/95. I'll let you know if that solved my problem...However, that point might be moot if I can use the data mds on a hi-md player. Is there a definite yes or no on this? Christopher
You definitely cannot use those discs in a Hi-MD unit.

hobgoblin
hmm, it would be interesting if sony or sharps refurbished that idea now that we have 1GB minidiscs think about it, cheap storage, handy size (i like em better then the flash chips as they are so damn small you drop em they are gone). Keep in mind Minidisc's have less surface area though
