iDiOt2
Hi guys. Sorry that this question is so basic but Ive combed the forum looking for an answer and to no avail. My problem is that when I attach the optical cable to my cd player and then plug it into the LINE IN(OPTICAL) I recieve a message saying NO SIGNAL. Is there something really obvious Im doing wrong?Youll be making my day if you can help me with this. I havent used my MZ-R900 in about a year and am trying to re-familiarise myself with recording with it. Anyway like I said, any help would be fantastic. Thanks guys. betamaxDATminidisc
Hi iDiOt2,I believe that if you have:CD-R recorded from signal digitalCD-RW recorded from signal digitalsoftware CD musical with Copy Control depend to computer/player/car audioCD-R MP3 or WMA recordedCD-RW MP3 or WMA recordedsoftware CD musical with HDCD and xrCD formatBut CD-R or CD-RW recorded (format PCM) isn't possible to copy on MiniDisc because after first generation of the SCMS for CD-R or CD-RW recorded from software CD original (signal digital). You must use a software CD original (format PCM 2-channels only and no dts).If your CD player aren't compatible DVD-Audio (or DVD-Audio Hybrid with layer DVD-Video) and SACD (single layer only). Instead, SACD Hybrid (layer CD compatible) can use in the CD player whichever. Which your model of CD player? It your CD player is defect for line optical out (LINE OUT) cause signal was much low or battery is emptying? It advises, your CD-R MP3 or WMA or CD-RW MP3 or WMA recorded can use in the your computer with audio PCI card IN/OUT optical and drive CD or DVD. You can connect an optical cable between audio PCI card and Sony MiniDisc MZ-R900 portable.Best regards.
iDiOt2
Im not quite sure if I understand what it is you are telling me. But let me try and answer a few questions. My CD Player is a Pioneer XC-L7 but I have also tried using the line out (optical) from a Sony Playstation 2 and a Kiss DP - 1000. I have not been able to receive a signal from any of these machines. Also I am not trying to play CD RW's to the mini disc. Im trying to play normal store bought CD's.My pc does not support Optical out and neither does my laptop (Dell Inspiron 5100).Now the cable Im using is brand new. It has worked for one of my friends and also when plugged in there is a red light which leads me to believe it is not in need of replacing. So anyway there we go. Annoying problem isnt it? Its driving me nuts here the last few days. So any more ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for all the help thus far. Youre very helpful. KJ_Palmer
As you haven't used your R900 for a while there may be an accumulation of dust etc. inside the optical in that impedes the laser from getting through - cleaning eg. with a blower/cotton bud may help... iDiOt2
You may be right. god I hope its something that simple! Ill try that now. But can anyone confirm the steps for me for the recording from an optical device? As that may highlight where the hell Im going wrong! Thanks again guys. iDiOt2
Ok I gave the LINE IN port a a very thorough clean. I even used a straw and blew in to it to ensure it was clean but still no signal. Worth a shot though! Anyway could someone confirm the steps for me for the recording from an optical device on this machine? Thanks again guys.
KJ_Palmer
Exactly the same as recording from a line in, except that the analogue lead is replaced by the digital cable. Is your lead plugged all the way in? When all the connections are made and the disks inserted press "Record" on your R900, "Play" on your CD and "Stop" on everything when it's all done - should be that simple. Why not try an analogue recording as a start? Maybe you could clean the ends of the cable with a micro-fibre cloth (like a lens cleaner)...Is your CD a copy protected one - try with another (old and trusted) one to test...Er.. are you sure the cables's plugged to the optical out (ie. not in) of your CD player...etc... iDiOt2
Hey KJ Palmer. Thanks for all your advice. Anyway I was given a kinda mascara stick (kinda like a cotton bud) and I used that on the optical port yesterday and loads of dust came out. Then I tried using the optical out on my friends pc and tada I got a signal! Thanks a lot. Now Ill just test it out on my own home optical outs and see how I get on. Cant believe dust could cause such a problem. Feel kinda dumb to tell you the truth. Anyway thanks for your help and patience. iDiOt2
Ok tried the MD again today with my own optical out and success. Annoying to know that dust caused this entire problem. But satisfying to at last have the thing working. But for some reason when I record, the tracks arent seperating. I was led to believe by a friend that with an optical cable this was automatic. Oh well the most important thing is the MD is now recording at great quality once again. Thanks very much to everyone who helped me on this. Very much appreciated.iDiOt2 Edited February 10, 2005 by iDiOt2
