batfastad
I posted a question relating to HiMD through the Sony UK website, to customer support. And here's the response! No native MP3 support for HiMD in 2005 then!Thank you for your recent enquiry. There are currently no plans at all for any firmware updates to the Hi-MD format. The Hi-MD format is designed to use the ATRAC format for better quality and reduced files sizes. If customers want a unit that has MP3 playback we have our Network Walkmans like the NW-HD3, which allow MP3 playback and also have larger storage.Hi-MD is designed for use with the ATRAC format and therefore the software converts native MP3 tracks into ATRAC so that they can be played back on the unit. MiniDisc has now been around for roughly 12 years and is still and extremely popular media where the format has always been ATRAC.I hope this information has been of help. And there was I hoping Sony would release native drag & drop MP3 playback in their 2005 Hi-MD models.Bummer! Valder
Sounds like a standard customer service reply to me. I really doubt that any future changes in the function of the minidisc system will be allowed to leave Sony through an email from CS. This would be a major change and there would be an official announcement from Sony.Valder
Qwakrz
I agree with Valder on this one, personally I think some parts of sony don't even know who's in the next office.
Valder
personally I think some parts of sony don't even know who's in the next office.←Canon, Sony, Nikon, Minolta, etc...insert company name here....just about anything you get from any companies CS about new features or units that have not been announced or even if they have been announced, the CS people seem to be the last to know.Val
Christopher
This is definitely hogwash and requires no further discussion.
