Question

Moved from minidisc forums:

http://www.minidisc-canada.com/shopexd.asp?id=502

Ok so I want to pick that up, to kind of replace my MD, I am getting to a point where I don't have the time to record MDs anymore, and I wanted something that could hold more than just 1 gig.

I looked around here in vancouver where I am, and they only have the NWHD1 at best buy, :ol_mad: So I am most likely going to have to get it off minidisc canada or even ebay (which I don't want to)

I am not sure though if I should opt for the D3 or the D5 model, the D5 looks too much like a lovechild between an Ipod and a gameboy.

The D3 looks better but I am sure if worse in the battery category.

My question is for owners of the D3 or D5, how long does your battery last on average, please don't quote me the numbers from the manual, those are never correct in real world situations. next I have a remoete from my MZ-N10 and was wondering if it would work with it, or I would have to buy this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-RM-MC40ELK-Remote...1QQcmdZViewItem

at 60 US it's damn expensive and I would rather use my remove I am used to, granted I won't need to use a remote, but then again I will if my old one works. My MD days are ending, I love my MZ-N10, but battery life is begginning to blow chunks and I am really becoming irritated with only 160 minutes of music. I got so many mp3s i want to listen to them on my way to school, the MD just doesn't cut it anymore.

I don't want a HiMD, because in my opinion MDs are not the way to go for the future.

Not sure if this is the right forum to be asking this, but please do post your comments about these 2 players. thanks.

I've used my HD5 for about 2 weeks. The battery lasts for about a week, with about 1-2 hours listening per day. My volume is at about 60%, I changes track very frequently, and I have backlight on (not all the time, but only when im touching the buttons of couse). Songs are mostly mp3s (lame extreme encoded), with a few atrac albums. I also uses line out quite a bit. I used to own a 40G iPod (4th gen), with the same style of usage, I usually charge my iPod every 2 days.

Thanks for the reply, appreciated. I was wondering how long it takes to transfer Mp3s onto the unit? I have usb 2.0 so I am hoping it is faster than the old sonicstage days.

edit, now I am not sure if I should wait for the new NW-A3000 player, since it is 20gigs and I am sure will have a lot more options than the HD3.

I don't think the new Sony HDD players offer anything more, other than bulkier size, nicer display, much higher price, and a couple of extra playlist/search options.

As for the remote, you can get the MC35ELK remote very cheaply on eBay. I picked one up for US$30 shipped and you can probably do better than that. It's a very handy clip-on remote the size of half a pencil, with backlit one-line display and most of the controls you need: volume, sound mode, forward/back/play/pause, unit (folder) +/-, and playback mode (shuffle/reg).

As for recharging, I listen to m yHD5 almost daily, sometimes a lot and sometimes less, and don't need to charge it for at least a week--in fact, I haven't come close to running it down yet in less than a week's time.

I have a RMMC40ELK with My HD1... and i think the remote is a waste of money..

better than nothing for biking or whatever.. but the thing is pretty annoying to use to browse your music.

Thanks for the info, I will most likely go remoteless or use my old 33 series if I really need it badly. I decided against both the HD5 and the HD3, will buy the new A3000 model.

IN nw-a3000 they have added clock .which is important as well .But u should wait for release of nw-a3000 & then u should compare nw-hd5 & nw-hd3

Well the clock is a nice feature, but in the end, I have on my cell phone, so I won't use it much, unless it displays it on the front regardless if is it playing or not.

colour screen isn't something I need in my player, since it will only be another extra drain on the battery power, and my main goal is to get the most out of the battery. I wish I could compare them, I could only do it via paper specs, since neither the HD5 or HD3 are on sale in any store here in vancouver.

the hd3 looks a bit better than the hd5, which I already mentioned looks like a love chold between a gameboy and the ipod, but the hd3 is getting a bit old now, and I don't think I want to buy older tech now a days. In addition the new players come with the CONNECT player which hopefully will be a much better piece of software than sonicstage.
