Peter Y
A couple years ago I bought a Sony SRS-T77 Speaker System which I can connect to the output of my MD player and to an AC outlet (or 4 AA batteries). Considering that the speakers are pretty small and that it fits into a bag that once came with a box of cassettes, the sound quality is pretty good.I use it at a fiddle jam session we have every week. We take a break in the middle to listen to about fifteen minutes of recorded music of some of the great fiddlers of the past several decades, which is a lot of fun.But it occurs to me that this was one of the earliest such speaker systems to be made for this purpose, and by now there might be something that's still reasonably compact (I carry it in the pocket of my fiddle case [actually a backpack case cover]), but that would have better sound quality.Does anyone have a favorite compact speaker system of this sort that stores in a fairly compact form but opens out to produce pretty good quality sound? Thanks!Peter
Fat Tires
The Creative Travelsound speakers sound very good for their size.
Peter Y
I've done some research on them and they do look very good. I can't figure out which model would be preferable between the 200 and the 300. Do you know anything that would help in making an intelligent decision? I care more about sound quality than about volume as I'll be using it in a living room-sized place for a fairly small group of people (4-8 usually) so volume isn't a problem. I can use AC, and both have at least optional AC adapters, although if I used batteries AA would be preferable as I have a bunch of rechageable AA batteries. Thanks in advance for any advice!Peter
Fat Tires
Sorry, I've not used either set yet, but if you really need to fill up a room with sound, I'd suggest going with less portable speakers so you can get decent sound. I bought the Emerson portable radio speakers for my desk, they have an Aux In for my MD recorder, ans it sounds pretty good. I got it for $14 at my local Target. I'd look into them if I were you. streaml1ne
Is that a picture of the frequency response on the second speaker?
Fat Tires
It's a frequency response, I don't know if it's the actual one for these speakers though.
Christopher
Yeah, it looks like a facade. That would be a neat feature, though..

Peter Y
The problem with larger speakers is that I have to take them from home to work and then to a jam session in the evening. That wouldn't be so bad except I have to park over a mile from work and take a shuttle, so I'm already carrying my school bag and my fiddle case for the jam session. The portable speakers I use now are acceptable but not great; but at least they fit in my fiddle backpack case along with my minidisc or CD player, depending on my music source. What I really want is something that still fits in my fiddle case but that sounds somewhat better. I suppose I could carry another bag, but it would start to get awkward!Peter
