Dilemma about the battery issue with VAIO Pocket

Question

I originally bought the Vaio Pocket due to the great 20 hr battery life but I see now it discharges even when not used. You see I use it for sailing trips which last sometime a couple of weeks (no ac outlet). I was hoping to use the vaio for it listening to music hear and there...but i see now this won't happen since the drainage occurs even when the battery is OFF....

do i give up on the vaio?

or is there any tech trick to really turn off the unit...apart from tearing out the battery every time...

:(

Call me crazy, but is there a power mode on it? Similar to Minidiscs? for example my minidisc has 2 power modes quick and normal.

while in the quick mode, the battery remains on even when there is nothing on the screen. The point of this is to have a quick playback when you press play. The normal mode is when the battery shuts off after and turns back on when you press play.

but in my MD even in quick mode, the battery turns eventually off after 17 hours and switches back to quick mode after a few minutes when play is pressed again.

I am no expert on the Vaio pocket, but this could be the problem.

Unfortunately, the Vaio pocket doesn't have a power mode option. Also, removing the battery or completely discharging it will reset the device, forcing you to go through with the G-sense setup and re-assigning album art from the photo folder.

For the power issue, same thing with most other MP3 DAPs, like iPods. To reduce boot-time, most DAPs keep draining power to remain "stand-by." My Dell DJ 2nd gen is pretty good though, usually I can leave it not used for several days, and still have some juice left. Another option is DAPs that have removable battery, ala iRiver H10, Creative Zen, Sony HD5, where you can buy extra batteries and pre-charge them before your trip.
