Jaylaca
Hello,I've been reading this forum for a while now. Was about to buy an NH900 when the announcement for the 2nd gen Hi-Mds crossed the board.Reliability, durability, battery-life, sound quality. Those are the priorities. I have a Shure vp-88 stereo mic and Sennheiser shotgun (both phantom power from their own internal battery). I'll be traveling abroad recording various sound effects, ambiences, interviews, and music. I will probably record in PCM format and bring the .wav files into the computer via USB when the travelling is done.It seems that the 1st gen Hi-Md units can get a long battery life with the purchase of better rechargeable AA's. Looking for user experiences and advice. Thanks in advance,Jaylaca
Woodgnome
Wait for the 2nd gen model. You may have difficuty buying tha NH900 as it appears to have been taken off the shelves??? TBCThe NH900 works fine as an "i-pod" but when recording and editing in Hi-MD mode there are some problems that can corrupt the disc and erase your precious recording. You can however use the player in normal MD mode (shorter recorrding times - slightly less quality) but you may as well buy a cheaper net-md. Christopher
What problems, Wood? They are mostly few and far between if you just mostly do straight uploads with SonicStage 3 and edit the tracks on the computer. There was an editing issue with merging tracks, or something of that matter if you just search around. In my opinion, the RH10 is one of the best live recording units to be ever made, just because it has a backlit screen and Hi-MD densities. It is still unknown how practical the new operating system on the unit is in terms of live recording, and whether it can ascend past the nuances of setting the recording mode and keeping it that way as well as other little quirks that were present in first generation. I say wait for a credible review on the RH10 and then decide. If it sucks, pursue a NH900 for sure.
