Optical Cable

This is probably a silly question but how do you use an optical cable? I have an optical cable supplied with my new MZ-NH1 but I can't see how you use it. The plugs at each end are not identical. One is long like a jack plug but is all plastic. The other is short and stubby with some metal tabs on the side but the end of that is all plastic as well. Never come across these before. I don't have any other optical output equipped equipment(!).

...that plastic bit 's probably the cover over the end  sleep.gif

Thanks. Yes I found I could pull off the ends to reveal "plugs". Being new to this I was rather afraid of damaging them. I assume you are meant to replace the "covers" when the lead is not in use. I'd say they were easy to lose. This is my first contact with optical connections so I'm a bit wary.

Now you know how they work you can have endless fun holding one end up to a light and seeing the result in the other end, and stuff like that, pending the purchase of something to actually connect it to. And as stated you can take off the covers, lose them, search for them, find them, put them back on again - wonderful times lie ahead.

My book entitled "101 Things To Do With A Disused Optical Cable" can be purchased on Amazon shortly.
