jenss
I just backed up my extensive ATRAC3 library using SonicStage 3.0. I understand that I can retrieve all my ATRAC songs in case I have to reformat my hd or reinstall windows (I never tried either, but I hope this will work). The SonicStage backup tools will (hopefully) recognize my computer as the one that imported the ATRAC3 files from CD and will therefore play the files. My questions are:How does this work exactly, i.e., how does SonicStage recognize my computer as the one that created the ATRAC files?Would SonicStage still recognize my computer if I would exchange hardware components (hard drive, graphic card, mother board, sound card, etc.)?Apparently, I cannot copy my ATRAC3 files to another computer by copying my library to it (or so I heard). What if I buy a new computer? Can I transfer the songs and the copyrights from my old computer to my new computer, i.e., I can play the files on my new computer, but not on my old computer, or are there any other ways to copy ATRAC3 files that have been imported from a CD to computer A to computer B?Questions over questions...I hope somebody has the knowledge and the time to help me.Thanks in advance,Jens
atrain
sonic stage encrypts the files with a key that's specific to the installationwhen you do the back up i think it sends it to a central server, when you roll out the back up the key would be registered to the new install & the old one, if it still exists would be de-authorised.if you are keeping the library on computer A you'll need to reimport them for computer B, two [or more] copies are what this scheme will prevent.the best solution is to keep them in wav, mp3 or lossless codec & import as needed rather than all at once. the small extra time when transferring would easily be recouped if you did lose all your rights. The quality of these is fine for almost all listening -- and with over 600 CD's in my library it would be relatively pointless to keep them all in PCM / WAV format. ATRAC3+ at 256KBS is more than good enough for almost all types of listening and especially for any type of listening on the move.I don't have ANY trouble backing up from Computer A and restoring to computer B .What happens is that the program needs a connection to the Internet to validate your DB -- in the case of CD's which don't have any problems unlike "purchased downloaded music" from connect or elsewhere the validation always works and your library will be reloaded on to computer BNote that any existing music library on Computer B will be erased by the restore. You can transfer tracks to MD without problems. You still however won't be able to upload tracks to the computer FROM the MD if SS determines that the MD has already uploaded tracks to a different computer.(I'm using SS 3.0)BTW the computer with the original Library (Computer A) of course still works --just because you've backed something up doesn't mean that the original program will stop working.I've done this loads of times as I also want to have music files on my Laptop which I use when travelling or at worrk as well as my main desktop computer at home.Cheers-K Edited April 9, 2005 by 1kyle
