Spare Tire
My gumstick has been running my MT877 for 4 years now and needed replacement. Most retailer and etailer charge 30$ for a new gumstick. I looked on ebay instead.I know that there are a lot of fakes going around and i heard that to make sure you're getting the real NH-14MW you have to look for the packages with the stamina designation and the japanese scribles on them. I made the mistake to buy one from hong kong, though i made sure it looked like the real thing, but on the first charge the battery expanded and i was just lucky enough to get the cell out of my MT877 cause it was stuck real tight in there. I think the separator in the cell must be damaged and shorting and cooking my battery. DAMN.So can someone tell me how to discern the real things from the fakes? Syrius
I posted something like this some time ago. I hope my advice is helpful:http://www.minidiscaccess.com/item.html?PRID=1152714This one with the rounded "Walkman" lettering on the carton, is original. From Japan. The others, even though they tout the stamina logo, and the Sony name with some Japanese characters, are fake if they have the new "angular" Walkman on the package, even if they have kanji on them. (sorry, couldn't find an auction with those pics). I hate to say this, but I doubt you will get original Sony batteries out of Taiwan, or Hong Kong. (Correct me if I'm wrong) You can get other original brands of batteries around, though. Just search for "gumstick battery" or "minidisc battery". I heard the GP-brand ones are good. Damage
Not sure if this applies to Japanese/Asian units, but:The US Gumstics will have a small "Recycle" Logo in the orange area of the Gumstick on both sides of the battery label. Missing those, and you got yourself a questionable unit.
