Hi.

I've installed SonicStage 2.3 on Windows Xp pro (no sp) and it worked great.

It runned without any convertion probs etc. Simply perfect.

I had to update my Xp. So I format the c:\ drive and installed Windows Xp Pro with Service Pack 2 included.

Everything works great on my Pc except SonicStage blink.gif ...

It installs normaly but when I try to start the program my pc craches after the initialization... dunno why but it really sucks.

I've already tried all SonicStage versions avaiable. This is really shitty 'cause i can't get any songs to my NetMD.

I haven't connected my NETMD to my PC. Because of this problem, i'm scared of getting my netmd "on fire" lol

I have a P4 3Ghz

768 Mb Ram

Radeon 9600 XT 256MB

320 Gb Of HD

Any solutions?

Thanks in Advance

Hello,

Recently, I encountered the same problem, BUT only if I have an audio CD in the drive AND Sonicstage tries to connect the CDDB service.

The same goes for Simpleburner...

I also have XP with SP2 installed.

Maybe you can check if you have a CD in your drive and... remove it ;-)

I hope this is a little help.

hum.. I don't have any cd in the drive BUT I have a lot of Virtual Drives....

It still doesn't work... I disabled all virtual drives...

Thanks anyway.

by the way i forgot to mention that i don't have any fddshow codec pack installed but I have Ciberlink PowerDVD...

cyberlink is a crappy dvd playback program, imo you'd do better just using WMP & manually intsalled up to date codecs.

have you run windows update? there may be some wmp, .net ot database updates you require. also try doing a full unistall of ss, & i mean full registry & all & reinstalling after a reboot the latest version of SS, 3.1

can't hurt anything but your bamdwidth

I've uninstalled ss 2.3 and tried ss 3.1 no luck again mad.gif .

To do the uninstalation I use a great program named Your Uninstaller 2004. This program starts the program uninstalation executable of the program u want to uninstall either the uninstalation isn't/is sucessful He erases all the registry settings left by the program. and clears the directory he was installed in.

I updated my Xp today and still it doesn't work.

I've e-mailed sony about the problem and i'm waiting for an answear.

Cyberlink Power DVD works great on my PC and I think it hasn't anything to do with the ss problem cause when I installed Cyberlink Power DVD ss already had this problem.

Thanks again

uninstall it via the directions in the sticky at the top of the software support forum, please follow all the steps.

the cyberlink thing is unlikely to be a culprit, i was just giving my opinion on it as software.

I have Cyberlink Power DVD / Virtual CD / Nero Image Drive installed on my PC (Windows XP Pro /SP2) : SS 3.0 / SS 3.1 / SB 2.0 have no problem with them.

What I can suggest you is to re-register MDAC / JET (search the forum for the links) and reinstall / repair .NET (see Microsoft Support Center).

Maybe some service has a  problem , and  is set to reboot the computer in this case;

some services , like "Plug And Play",  reboot always the computer after a failure.

(see Windows services configuration panel)

I found the panel forget about the screenshot.

I deactivated the reboot option in case of error and now I get a Blue Screen with an error message.

It says that its a memory error.

but how come this error can ocur if I have 768 MB of ram????? blink.gif

I am starting to become desperate about this shitty error...

This error occurs when a program tries to access memory out of allowed bounds , or when physical memory has a failure (either broken or misconfigured).

The first case is more likely , it could be a virus : run a good anti-virus software.

For the second case : run a memory test (you will find several free programs on the web)

Check also logs in Windows "Events watcher" (or something like that).

in French : "Démarrer/ Panneau de Configuration / Outils d'administration/ Observateur d'événements "

Can you tell which service you have prevented to reboot the computer, and the complete description of error message ?

I have Norton Internet Security 2005 and I runned Norton AV 2005 on all hd drives

no virus found.

I tried a memory test and everythings cool.

I haven't checked the events watcher yet but later today I'll do that cause now i'm at school. I only had time to do the memory test and virus check.

about the option I deactivated was this one on the screenshot.

Yes, I'm French wink.gif

What you have changed is the behavior in case of system failure, not in case of service failure.

You will find the services in "Démarrer/Panneau de configuration/Outils d'administration/Services" (select a service then look at the "Récupération" tab).

btw, the infamous Sasser worm made the RPC service fail , default failure behavior for this service is to reboot the computer.

Try to carefully check Windows events watcher (and possibly Dr Watson logs) , and describe your error message.

[EDIT]

I have seen on your screenshot that "Write debugging information" is checked,

take a look at that too ( I think informations are written in "%SystemRoot%/Minidump")

For a complete memory dump, select "Complete Dump" (but the process take much more time).

To know what your "SystemRoot" environnement variable is :

open a DOS window ("Start/Execute/cmd") then type "set SystemRoot" ,

or do "Start/Execute/ and type %SystemRoot%" to open file explorer on this directory (generally , it points to "C:\Windows") .

Hi Tenorman here,

I am not sure if I am posting correctly, but I do have an idea of what might be going on with your system.

I had problems installing software on a PC at work the other day and discovered that XP service pack 2 adds in a new security feature called "Data Execution Prevention" or DEP that could be causing or contributing to your difficulties.

Here is a portion of the online help that they provided.  I have attached a Word document with the entire article.  I hope this helps....

Cause

As of XP SP2, Microsoft has enabled Data Execution Prevention (DEP); a feature that is included in newer processor series from AMD and Intel. Data execution prevention (DEP) is a set of hardware and software technologies that perform additional checks on memory to help protect against malicious code exploits. Intel refers to their version of DEP as XD or "execution disabling bit". AMD refers to their version of DEP as the "NX-bit" or "No Execute bit".

Solution or Workaround

Disable DEP in Windows XP SP2 using the steps below.

Users with Intel processors may also need to disable the "XD" or Execution Disabling Bit in their computer's CMOS/BIOS. Since each computer's CMOS is different, reference the computer's manual or contact the manufacturer of the computer in question for assistance with this step.

WARNING: The instructions below include making changes to essential parts of your operating system. It is recommended that you backup your operating system and files, including the registry, before proceeding. Consult with a qualified computer systems professional, if necessary.

The company I copied this tech support suggestion from warns that they...

cannot guarantee results from incorrect modifications while following these instructions. Therefore, use caution and proceed at your own risk.

Verify the Administrator account is running for Windows XP.

Right-click on My Computer and select Properties.

Click on the Advanced tab.

Select the Settings button under Startup and Recovery.

Locate the line by the default operating system that reads:

"Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

Locate and change the boot.ini, by clicking on the Edit button, and then change /NoExecute=OptIn to /NoExecute=AlwaysOff.

Save the file and reboot.

Now the software should install with no error 1904 messages.

After installation, change the boot.ini back to its original state, returning the added layer of security.

Below are the different switches for the NoExecute parameter.

The boot.ini file switches:

/noexecute=option - This is the default. DEP is enabled. There are four options to this switch:

- OptIn - Default setting. Only Windows system binaries are monitored by DEP.

- OptOut - Enables DEP for all processes. Users can create a list of applications which are not monitored by DEP using the DEP configuration options listed in the System Control Panel applet.

- AlwaysOn - Enables DEP for all processes. DEP is always applied, and exceptions lists are ignored and not available for users to apply.

- AlwaysOff - Disables DEP.

/execute - Disables DEP.

This instance of the 1904 error occurs only on computers running Windows XP Service Pack 2 on hardware that supports the "NX-bit" or "DEP" feature. For other types of 1904 errors, see the related links section.

To check if DEP is completly disabled, go to "Configuration Panel/ System/Advanced/ Performances/Data Execution Prevention " : the two settings must be unavailable

Older Intel processors may have not hardware DEP, but Windows may use software DEP.

You may have to change boot.ini access rights to be able to modify it.

Look i've seen the logs and checked out the error at windows support

it says that the error was caused by a device driver the problem is that they were unable to determine wich driver is causing this....

if Sonic Stage worked before it has to work on a fresh copy of this windows xp sp2...

So what I'm going to do when I have the time is to format the HD and install Windows XP SP2. If it works cool if not I have to use another program that do the same thing. The problem is that I haven't heard about one thats identical to Sonic Stage except Simple Burner. But Simple burner doesn't go get the files from the HD. It only rips Cd's to MD's.

thanks

With Simple Burner : make a virtual CD containing your files ( delete the image file after transfering on your device if you want to free disk space).

Look I don't get any error messages at the install.

Are u sure this will resolve the problem?

it is safe to disable DEP (though you will not longer get DEP protection);

you can try it and restore your boot.ini file after.

What are exactly the errors ?

I had problems when upgrading to SP2 (I had to re-register MDAC and JET, but only SS was crashing, not the entire system).

In fact there is no "error".

I installed Windows Xp with integrated Sp2.

2 months later I tried to install Sonicstage and the install is always sucessful.

The thing is that when I Try to Initiate the program my computer simply reboots.

It happens the same thing when u press the reset button.

So what I'm going to do when I have the time is to format the HD and install Windows XP SP2.

What I was trying to point to is that the problem is the result of new security measures that were added to Windows XP when you installed SP2.

SS2.3 might have worked fine prior to installing service pack 2, and would continue to function properly after installing SP2. Service pack 2 interferes with loading new software. I don't think it would affect existing programs that were installed before you put SP2 on your machine.

When, however, you remove SS2.3 and try to install SS3.0 or SS3.1 on an XP machine with Windows XP SP2 installed and DEP enabled (which is the default under SP2), the new "Data Execution Prevention" feature might not let SS3.0 or SS3.1 load properly.

The suggested workaround in the attachment above (ID28065.doc) describes how to first modify the boot.ini file to turn off the DEP feature, in steps 1 through 6.

Then to reboot and load your software in step 7.

Then to turn the DEP security feature back on in step 8.

If you are going to reformat your harddrive, it wouldn't hurt to try this approach first. If you do go ahead and reformat your harddrive, you might want to load SS3.1 prior to installing SP2.

Good luck and please let us know how things work out.

I've tryied what u sugested it didn't work out.

the computer still reboots.

If u install windows Xp (without service pack) and later u install Service pack 2 in that case I think that the solution u gave could work.

My windows xp comes with service pack 2 pre-installed.

I suspect it has something to do with my motherboard....

I have 3 Hard Disks.

At IDE 1 I have 2 Seagates "Barracuda" one of 120 gb (only one partition) and other of 80 GB (Master)(System partition and other for backups and other stuff).

At IDE 2 I have a Seagate "Barracuda" 120 GB (only one partition) and a LG 4082B DVD-RAM drive (Master).

One day I needed to test a friends disk to see if it was working properly...

It didn't work.

And when I connected my 120 gb at ide 2 back something strange happened.

At the bios check there was 3 disks BUT after Windows finished boot sequence i Went to My Computer and there the 120 gb hd at ide 2 didn't appear.

I go to disk manager, hardware properties and other places and i didn't found the disk. It simply vanished.

So I thought that the disk wasn't well conected so I check the conection cables with the pc turned off and tried again.

No results.

So the first thought I had was to update my motherboard chipset drivers and thats what i did. I installed the updates and rebooted. Windows booted up and... BINGO!

Problem solved.

I installed sonicstage after this happened. And since I need the damn drivers to have the 3 disks conected at the same time i haven't uninstalled them just because of sonistage 'cause a the computer works great with every program I install except for sonicstage.

The only possible solution I encounter here is format the c:\ drive and see what happens with a fresh copy of Winodws Xp SP2 Integrated.

What do u guys think?

Thanks a lot for all your posts biggrin.gif

Look I don't get any error messages at the install.

Are u sure this will resolve the problem?

The errors listed in the tech support article ID28065.doc were specific to the mapping software I was loading. I did not get those errors loading SS (my rh10 is slated to arive tomorrow....). When I read your initial problem and saw that you were working on a computer running XP under SP2, it sounded to me like the problems I was having yesterday.

I had never heard of DEP until yesterday. The suggested workaround that the mapping software company gave me fixed my installation problem immediately and it only cost me the 5 or ten minutes necessary to reboot my customer's computer a couple of times.

Just because Sony's intallation program didn't catch any errors doesn't mean that the program installed properly. The software company that pointed me to the workaround in the attachment I posted has some excellent programmers and may have added a higher level of error checking to their software installation program than does Sony.

So, no I am not at all sure that this will resolve the problem, but I think there is a good chance that it might. If you are nervous about messing with your boot.ini file, you might want to put the question to the tech support folks at Sony. One of their analysts might be glad to investigate whether DEP could be causing your problems. Tell them what type of hardware you are using and let them test it out on a similar machine running XP under SP2.

Again, good luck.

DEP protection works all the time ,not only when installing software, so the problem could be in a service or a dll.

SP2 can be desinstalled , and you can download it from Microsoft Download Center if you have not it on yours Windows CDs.

try "Add /Remove Programs" first, if it doesn't work, see Microsoft support center for others ways to do that.

But since your PC came with SP2 pre-installed, I can't guarantee the results, or tell it is safe ( I made that on a PC upgraded from SP1).
