Hi! I just bought MZ-RH10 but now I need good mic/mics for recording. I plan to record clarinet with piano and I'll also need it for orchestral recordings. It would be good that I can put them on a stand. First I was thinking to buy Sony ECM-MS957 but now when I read some of the topics I changed my mind. I plan to record in good acoustical place so I don't know if I have to buy a pair of binaurals from SoundProffesionals or something else....I can spend up to 180$(if invested money will really result in great sound). I am from Croatia (Europe) so my friend will buy it in US and send it to me.That's why I need suggestions that are already tried and prooven to be good so that I can just tell him the type and model to send me. I saw lots of suggestions in previous topics but I couldn't make up my mind so I had to write new topic related specificaly to my case.

If someone can help I will be most gratefull....

I can't recommend a certain model, but I've made very good experiences with binaurals...

If you want to hear samples, I invite you to take a look at my gallery.

It's propably not your kind of music, but you'll get the idea...

Are you sure that's unusual? Rode NT4's are very popular here in the States. I haven't had any experience in any aspect with them, but I've heard that they preform very well. Any NT4 users want to chime in and give us some notes? I believe if you also search you'll see some opinions about them as well.

The Rode NT4 works fantastic. I use it with my RH10.

The ECM-MS957 is the high end single point stereo mic from Sony, but if you compare the specs with the Rode NT4, its a piece of crap. The Rode blows it way. If you look around, you can find it for $350.

I bought the NT4 mainly because of its max. SPL of over 140 db. I record really loud music at bars.

The NT4 does a great job of reproducing the sound. I believe the recording sounds better then actually bieng there. Really loud music can be difficult to listen to and enjoy.

The only way my recordings could sound better would be if the band's PA sounded better.

I think that the two most important things in recording live music is the quality of the sound coming from the band and the quality of your mic. These two things limit the quality of the recording way more then your recorder will or if you go mic-in vs line-in.

Thx cbud for your comment!

I haven't bought it yet but I will in few days. I was having 2nd thoughts...wasn't sure if it is really good and I was thinking that maybe Sony 957 would be good enough. But hell I am gonna spend extra money and get it. I found it for 450$ here in Europe..it's not cheap but when I compare it to Sony ECM-MS957 which is around 300$ I think it's much better choice.

I'll write my first impressions soon... wink.gif
