lxrichbirdxl
HI!I ripped a CD yesterday to see how ATRAC 352kps sounds like.I firstly ripped it to WAV using SS 3.3, then converted the files to ATRAC 352kps when transfering to my HD3. The result was disappointing, the converted files sounded like 128kps mp3, in which there's this 'WAH WAH' effect usually occurs in low quality audio...strange!Then I ran a second test. I ripped the CD to the new atrac lossless at 256kps, then converted those to ATRAC 352kps when I transfered to my player. This time, what I heard was something similar to ATRAC3plus 256kps, good quality!...and I also noticed that the conversion starts right from 50% when I convert WAV to 352kps...!?So here's what I've got. Christopher
How discernable is 256kbps ATRAC3plus and 352kbps to you? What kind of headphones do you use?
plickfu
I found exactly the opposite. I thought the WAV to 352kbps had showed much warmer treble response. Conversely, I thought Lossless256 to 352 sounded not quite as good as Atrac3+256. This makes sense because we now know that it's the lossy 256 that gets transcoded to 352, which is pointless. In any case, I really hope that old players (i.e., Vaio Pocket) will be able to support lossless in the future.SteveP.S. I use MDR-EX71 headphones with Vaio Pocket, so they're not the best.
