nadnerb
Hey, I've been recording shows for a few months now at bars and small venues but will be at the Gorge amphitheater at the end of the month. Does anyone know what the optimum setting for the bass roll off frequency, using a sound professionals battery box, would be for such a large and loud event? Cheers. A440
There shouldn't be much difference between recording a loud band in a club and recording at the Gorge. In fact, it might be better, because outdoors the bass dissipates instead of bouncing around the room. The reason for bass rolloff is to fix the bass-heavy mix of so many clubs. Since you're going through line-in, without a preamp to overload, try first without any bass rolloff. In any event I wouldn't go above 100 hz because even there, you're already cutting a lot of bottom out of the music. Have fun at Sasquatch--the Pixies should knock your socks off, and don't miss the Frames.
mrsoul
The Gorge does have an incline and that concrete down front. If I did roll the bass it would be at the lowest level. But, like A440 suggested, I would try it without. Are you using cardioids or omni mics? Cardioids at the Gorge are likely to pick up way too much wind noise unless you put it in a dead rat windsock. I miss the Gorge. Saw lots of great shows there in the mid to late 90's. Neil Young, Phish, Traffic...
nadnerb
I'm using omni mics. This is probably a stupid question but how do you completely turn off the sound professional bass roll off. Do you just set all the switches to closed? javertim
Yes, if nothing is switched to "open," you are getting a powered signal that is free of any bass roll-off.
