Ishiyoshi
Bang & Olufsen: Beogram RX 2 radial tracking stereo turntableA few months ago, I acquired a mint condition Beogram RX 2 to enjoy vintage LPs; and also with plans to transfer rare LPs to MD. This is truly a beautiful sleek machine and I have since enjoyed many vintage LPs with it. Highly recommended if you can find one; simply just love vinyl or if you plan to transfer your LP collection over to a digital format. Enjoy the pictorial. General Information and Features (source: Beocentral)Beogram RX 2 | Radial tracking stereo turntable (1985-1990) | 33/45RPM | Type numbers: 5831, 5833, 5835Taking the place of Beogram 1800, the RX 2 continued the theme of a Beogram that could be used with any Beo system. However, the concept was this time expanded to offer compatibility outside the B&O range, by fitting the RX with two RCA phono plugs, instead of a 5 pin DIN plug. The front was also re-styled, and became flat, which had the unfortunate consequence of making the RX look a lot taller in the base than the 1800, which appeared very slim indeed. Similar to most Beogram 1800, the RX 2 featured record sizing by weight. When Play was selected, the centre part of the platter would raise gently, with only just enough force to lift a 45RPM single. An LP would be too heavy to lift, so the mechanism would set itself to 45RPM and 18cm if the record lifted, 33RPM and 30cm if it did not. The speed control keys could then be used to override the choice for non-standard records. The parts could also detect if a record was not present, and prevent the turntable being activated.Nonetheless, the RX 2 was to be the last of this family of machines to be offered and the last radial turntable in the B&O range. Changes over the RX are minimal, the most important being that the RX 2 is not supplied with a pickup, choice being left up to the owner.
