This is my wish for Sony. I know its a futile effort, but I want to post it anyway. I wish Sony would come out with a Hi-MD unit that has all the great features of playback, but no recording features needed other than the PC to Hi-MD unit. :-D Why would I love this? Because I'm strictly a Hi-MD lover for the portable music aspect, and I don't feel there are as many good Hi-MD players, as there were NetMD players. It seems like we had such a huge selection of NetMD players to choose from, with massive features for playback, good looks, and no need for Live recording. I'd like to see a few more units like that come to the Hi-MD side. Does anyone have any suggestions, that would give me the right price point for the playback? I currently own a 600D and while it does everything I need it too, i wish it was a little more attractive looking, with at least a back lit display for night time. :-D

Defying Expectations, Third Generation Hi-MD Unit Surfaces?
toxigenicpoem replied to Christopher's topic in News
That is just beautiful... What sony needs to do is open up the MD format, and stop making other companies pay them for the technology. It would then EASILY replace any other form of portable, erasable/re-writeable, anti-skipping, media. -
1st Gen Hi-MD portables battery life (lackluster!)...

No I can laugh @ Ipod users all the time.. Choosing fashion over function. Its an inherent function of a disk medium. The outside track is longer then the inside track, therefore you need to spin faster to reach the same write/read speed. -
hmm all this over a simple naming mixup.. NetMD.... Network Walkman....

Not bootable, but can you connect the drive, and access the files. i would suspect that you would be able to run the sonicstage on the drive, and run the backup tool that way...?

Well if we decide to ditch the firm ware, does anyone know instruction codes for the hardware? I spose we could throw overflow commands to the Hi-MDs microprocessor, and see if it spills back control commands. Does anyone know what the microprocessor is inside the Hi-MD? And who gets to be the lucky one to start hacking at thier FirmWare?

maybe you should look into doing more CSS programming into the design of the page (love to help if its needed.) Then people can choose to view the site in plain text, or a plain style sheet, and then another snazzy style sheet for the main site. I just absolutly dislike the portal.

or try upgrading, the 66.93 were basically instable for almost anyone. The new Forceware 7x.xx and up are a rebuild to correct the 66.xx drivers. If your going to downgrade to the 61 version, I recommend using OmegaDrivers.net tweaked 61s, the new 7xs should be out soon.

I agree with most others, I absolutly dislike the portal system. My reasons for disliking to portal system, is I honestly dont like the way the portal feels. Yes it intergrates the forums into the site, but they are distinctivly 2 things. I guess I also don't see what the big advantage of the Portal System, vs. a basic CSM(content managment system). Intergrating forums into any CSM wouldn't be a difficult task. But over all I don't like the new feel or look.

And what version of SonicStage are you using?

I'll agree with Volta, when it comes to the MD, the 'Line Out' isn't a true line out in a sense of an untouched signal.

Not to mention generally highly outdated units, appearing for thier brand new price...

Do you think they pad it, to make up for the slow speed of the Hi-MD recorder? My next question, because I havn't seen this yet, has anyone done a HD/REG snapshot and compared this to 1) a New installation, and Key generation of SonicStage, and 2) A new file creation/upload. If someone beats me to the punch, here is the software I was looking @ for snapshoting the harddrive, and comparing the file, and registry differences. http://www.gold-software.com/DiskandRegist...review13099.htm Wheres DVDJohn when you need him !

Guess I dont understand your question? If you mean when you download music to a MD unit, is MP3 Converted to Atrac3(Plus) then Yes. On 2nd generation Hi-MD units, you can use MP3 audio, but still need to upload it through the supplied SonicStage software. Does this answer your question?
