0 Guest Stuge
which player u have opened pl tell us is it nw-hd 1 or hd2,hd3 &hd5.I know most of the electronic goods marked with made in china r bad.but sony can`t use inferior parts. But why u have choose such a login name "Kuta"(i think u know the meaning of that {it means Doggy})
0 Dinko
I'm pretty sure the Toshiba "Made in China" drive is the same Toshiba "Made in China" drive that is used on the Apple iPod, RCA Lyra, Samsung Yepp... you name it.I don't see how Sony is using inferior quality parts, relative to the other companies. As for Made in China... I for one am pretty sure it is lower quality than Made in Elsewhere. That applies to electronics, clothing, toys, or anything else that I have so far encountered. You get what you pay for. When you underpay and undertrain Chinese factory workers, you're bound to get lower quality. Same would happen anywhere else. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/4933473/site/newsweek/It's gotten to the point, where I simply avoid products with the "Made in China" sticker, because cheap as they may be, they are still too expensive relative to what their quality (or lack of) is. I'd need a significant rebate to cover the risks associated with "Made in China". Hence my decision to get a cheap "Made in China" laptop, as opposed to an expensive Made in China Vaio laptop. If it's made in the same factory under the same conditions, why pay more for the Sony brand? Especially that every single Made in China Sony product that I've come accross has broken during its warranty period or shortly after, far underliving the expectation associated with its price level and brand name. 0 pata2001
If you order iPods online, they are shipped directly from Shanghai. What important is quality control and support. This is where the brand comes into play, as brand manufactures would be concerned about their status in the eye of consumers, so they would try to keep good quality control so consumers won't associate their brand with junk. Of course, there are always exceptions. This also brings into question Sony's so called G-protection. If the hard-drive is just Toshiba hard-drives used in many HDD DAPs, how can Sony claim the G-protection feature? Would'nt the feature need to be built in into the hard-drive? Which means if Toshiba indeed has that technology, wouldn't the same technology apply to any other DAPs that use that hard-drive? Or maybe the feature is a "lie"? (just like the G-protection in PCDPs = compression of music)

0 ajitp
Kuta - You still haven't told us which unit you opened up. and i thinkpata made a good point about it not necessarily being the components that matter, but the quality of the quality control. My hd5 freezes if theres too much shock (it happened once when i was mountain biking) and i just remove/reinsert the battery and its all good again. 0 ajitp
plenty of my friends have had their iPods freeze, but they can't remove the battery, so they've had to wait for the battery to die before it unfreezes.

0 Evansgambit
Mine is HD1, and the Internal HDD is "Made in Philipines"That is a good point about quality, it is misleading to have "Made in Japan" on the HD1 Walkman, which they do. Only then to have the internal made Elsewhere. The HDD is just as important if not more than the unit.
