Many of the discounted sellers are selling the MZ-RH10 without the charging stand and without the lcd remote. Is this worth the extra $40 to $50?

If you don't have a charging stand, how do you cahrge the batteries?

Also, how many of you actually use the remote or is it easier to just use the face of the recorder. If you do use a remote, is the lcd really necessary?

I'd love to make a purchase soon, tonight even, but this has given me pause.

I probably put this post in the wrong place, so i apologize, but i'm new here and I have always recieved quick replies in the recording section. That's what I'll use it for anyway.

Thanks ph34r.gif

That's the North America version. Only those sold in Japan have the LCD remote and the charging station. You don't need the charging station, the recorder has a charging port for AC connections. The LCD remote, you can pick up one that works with this unit on Ebay.

Welcome to the Forum. This isn't a topic for Live Recording, probably Find Your Minidisc or even HiMD would be more appropriate but I don't have the rights to move this topic. If one of the mods can help...

Thanks for the info. You proved me right with the quick reply.

I can buy a little easier now.

So for the real live recording question ... dun dun duh!!!!

Is the remote usually helpful in live situations. I can imagine the LCD remote would be more effective for stealth. Maybe you're hiding the player and only using the remote. Is this acurate?

BTW speaking of stealth, Splinter Cell, Chaos Theory is a great game for the Xbox.

Any way thanks again for the response. ph34r.gif

I just got a RM-MC40ELK to use with my MZ-NHF800 and I'm extremely happy I did. You still have to set Manual Volume on the unit, but you can do that, leave it on Pause and Hold and put it in a pocket before walking in. (I did an overnight test; it will stay on Pause for at least 8 hours.) Then you can un-Pause it with the remote, keep an eye on recording levels (LCD), change Rec Volume if necessary and add track marks (P-Mode) without anyone paying much attention. The backlight only goes on when you push a button, but that's the only time you need it. You can do all the same things with the OLED display on the RH10, but the remote is a lot less obvious.

I bought my Japan-spec unit for 3 reasons: silver finish, LCD remote, and charging stand.

As has been said before, you can live without the charging stand (AC adapter plugs directly into unit, or unit recharges via USB when plugged into computer), but having had one on my N707, I kinda liked it - and I like the one on the RH10 better. It's nice to come home after 'wearing' it, and to just set it on a stand, and watch it charge - rather than have to find the cable, plug it in, and find a place to set it down. Laziness? Perhaps - but it's a convenience. The RH10 stand is also much more sturdy than that on my N707 - that one simply had a plastic base, and it was easy to knock it out of the stand from side to side. This one envelops the player slightly more, and prevents that from happening.

And while I liked my N707's non-LCD remote, the one on the RH10 shows me what I've been living without. Unless you're simply adjusting volume, playback, or track selections, the non-LCD remote's somewhat pointless. Unless you commit the menu screens to memory, you're not going to really be able to use some of it's functions to the fullest without pulling the player out, and looking at the screen. And by that point, what's the point of the remote, anyways?

But that's my personal taste; if you're looking for a good player at a better price, perhaps the NA market player's better for you. Regardless, the RH10 is a nice unit, and I love mine - despite I've yet to get SS 3.1 working right yet......

I modified my charging stand (for NH900) to connect it to a high-capacity rechargeable battery pack so I can record for about 24 hrs between charges (not in 'stealth' situations, though!). And it holds it at an angle you can easily see the display at when it's on a table and you're seated.

I recently purchased the North American version, and due to some shoddy salesmanship on the part of the eBay seller, was not informed of this version's lack of remote. The remote that isincluded is very small, and I must admit that I prefer it to bulkier LCD remotes from my older models. It's perfect for working out or being active. However, as has been noted above, it falls very short in recording situations.

My question is this: what is the model number of the remote that is included with the Japanese model? I'd like to purchase this "new type" remote, as MD Community calls it. My primary concern is getting full functionality and compatibility out of both the remote and the recorder. I've been considering the RM-MC40ELK, but would prefer to hear from a user who's tried the two together before jumping in.

Also, would anyone have the model number of the charging station for the Japanese model?

Many thanks to those who can help!
