reprosser
I got one Sony 1GB disc with the player. I recorded on it once and transfered the files using SonicStage. Now, when I put the disc in the player and try to do anything, it shows "protected disk". I have tried the write protect tab in both positions, but it does not help. I have some Fujifilm MD 80 discs that I have been using with no problem. The tab operation seems different for the MD vs the HiMD disc. How can I make the 1GB disc usable ?
atrain
try 'initialising' or 'formatting' the disc through sonicstage.
jonny mac
The system should work in the exact same way for standard and HiMD discs. If formatting it doesn't work I would try the same thing as can be done with audio cassettes - put some tape over the protection tab. Just make sure it's stuck down well and won't come off and interfere with the mechanism
reprosser
Cool - the tape worked great. Did not know this cassette trick worked on MD !SonicStage kept telling me that the disc was write protected, so I could not re-format.thanks
imdurc
I was really hoping this would work for me. I tried clear tape and it didn't work, then thought I should use brown tape and that didn't work either. Is this the only advice for this problem? Or could the Hi-MD disk simply be buggered? I remember I had some trouble with it before. But after holding the usb cable in tighter on connect-up, it worked and I recorded some stuff to it. The next time I decided to play that disk it said, "No track" and I had to re-initialize the disk. And since then, it's been protected, no matter what I do! Adam.
