Haybrd
Hi All,I am just about to jump into the MD (Hi MD) world and can't wait!I have a question though. Due to the fact I have a PC with Win98 (SE) but it is not manufacturer installed I am worried about not being able to use Sonic Stage (some might say that is a bonus?).I do have a optical out on my hi fi though so I believe I can record directly, albeit in realtime? If this is true, can I compress what I record to fit more than 1 CD onto a minidisc? or is this only possible using Sonic Stage? Many thanks in advance guys and gals.Brad
KrazyIvan
Yes you can record in any Hi-MD supported mode (Hi-SP, Hi-LP etc.) via optical. The only thing you cannot record in is NetMD supported modes(SP, LP2, LP4).

A440
You should try SonicStage anyway--3.1, not whatever comes on the disc with your Hi-MD. The worst case is that you would have to uninstall it if it didn't work.
dex Otaku
Sony's notes about "original installed OSs" are essentially their way of saying "if you built it yourself, or if you changed anything, we won't support you." That has no actual bearing on how the software works, though. I, for one, would NEVER use a preinstalled OS on ANY computer, because factory installs are usually so completely unreliable. Haybrd
Thanks A440 & Dex I'll give it a go. Like you say I can always uninstall.Am I right in thinking the MD will come with Sonic stage 2.0 and then I download 3.1?

In any case, I'd skip the discs included with any hardware I buy and go directly to the company's website to get the most recent stable drivers and software. Guest NRen2k5
Yes, that's right.I own an NH700, and it can record to SP/LP2/Mono/LP4 in realtime on old discs.
A440
And by the way, if what you're trying to to is pack a bunch of CD's onto a minidisc, then you can use SimpleBurner, the Sony program that actually works. Start it, connect the MD via USB, put in a CD and push the transfer arrow. Hi-LP will put about a dozen albums on an 80-minute disc.

I presume simple burner is more friendly with us old school win98 users then? Thanks all! T -11 days to NH900 day then!
