Mz-nh900 Reads All Discs As Write-protected

My MZ-NH900, approximately one year old and lovingly cared for, suddenly thinks all discs are write-protected. At first I thought this was a SonicStage glitch, but then I tried going into edit mode on a disc directly on the unit and was unable to do so. Have tried numerous discs - and confirmed that SS is OK because my 600D is still working fine.

I assume there is some kind of sensor somewhere in the unit that has gone haywire - but it seems that my only option is to "exchange" the unit for a refurbished one at a cost of $168.

Has anyone else ever experienced this, and if so - were you able to work through it on your own.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I had exactly the same problem with my old MZ-R50(?). Due to some poor disk insertion the 'protect detector pin' got broken/bent. If you look into the open mouth of the MD to the left hand side there should be two pins, the nearest one longer than the other. It probes the protect hole in the MDisc. If your is still OK then try putting a small piece of tape over the Mdisk hole (even though it shouyld be filled as normal for record enable) and see if the extra hight helps the MD recorder recognise the disc as record enabled. If the pins bent/broken there is no repair I'm afraid.

Thanks - I gave that a shot but it didn't work. The pins seem to be OK - but I will keep messing around with that approach. I appreciate your input.
