Mz-rh910 + Rm-mc40elk - Compatibility Questions

I have read some conflicting reports on RM-MC40ELK features working with MZ-RH10/MZ-RH910 players. In searches I've made on the forums some posts report one thing while others contradict the assertion (e.g. some reported MC40ELK only displaying one line instead of three w/ RH10). Anyhow, I have a few questions that I was hoping someone could answer:

With the MZ-RH910 & RC-MC40ELK...

- Can the MC40ELK access the RH910 recording menu?

- Does the remote show 3 lines or only 1?

- Can recording be paused/resumed via the remote?

- Can tracks be marked via the remote during record? during play?

- Can track groups be browsed via remote?

Any other comments regarding the combination? If the remote display is limited to one line can you recommend alternatives that can pause/resume recording with backlight? Finally, if I want to recording in low-light situatons should I just scrap the RH910 and go with the RH10?

As a note, I am using a recently purchased US/North America model of the RH910. Additionally, I am not "stealth recording"...my eyes just don't work as well as they use to in low light.

Thanks for any input

Just a bump. At this point I'm open to any suggestion on a preferred backlit remote if no one knows the details on RH910/MC40ELK combo. If you have a preferred remote you'd suggest could you specifically indicate what recording menu options are available with it? Thanks.

Ok, dug out my 40ELK remote and atached it to my uk but hacked RH10

What I have found

40ELK cant do recording from the unit, no record button BUT it can pause etc.

40ELK shows 3 lines on remote (same as it did on NH1)

40ELK can pause etc

Unknown if it can make track marks, dont think so due to lack of record button. Not tried to do a recording yet.

40ELK will allow moving between groups, it is different to the NH1 as you use scroll wheel to bring up current list then use FR to goto group listings. This is the same way you do it on the buttons on the RH10 anyway.

Hope that helps

Yes, but please remeber I have hacked my RH10 with the firmware hack shown on this site. AFAIK the original UK spec only shows 1 line on the remote. At the very least you will have to hack yours as well.

There are some guys here who assure that their rh10/rh910+mc40elk combo has the 3-lines feature, which would make sense, coz the rh10/rh910 units are not NetMD devices. I have the nh900+mc40elk combo and the only feature missed is the recording menu. I know they are from different generations but the remote is a himd universal remote, in fact the remote can be used in the Sony's hdd players sleep.gif .

p.s. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the track marks can be done by pressing the display button.

I have the NHF800, not the 910, with the RM-MC40ELK. I doubt that it would have any less functionality on a higher-end unit.

On the NF800, it shows 3 lines. It does not access the REC SET menu. But you can do that on the unit as usual, leave it paused, put it on HOLD and use the remote to un-Pause and start recording.

You make track marks with the P-Mode button. Display lets you check Rec Remain if you want to.

For recording in the dark, the remote is a joy--you can see that it's recording, you can check levels and change them if necessary with the wheel, and you can make track marks. Not to mention that you can leave the unit completely hidden.

With the RH910, can you get the backlight to stay lit or will it illuminate with a bump of the volume if it's on HOLD?

I recorded Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson last night and the 38EL didn't illuminate when on HOLD if I hit any buttons like the 40ELK would do with my old NH900. I had the RH910 stowed away. I should have brought the RH10 along but the weather was rainy and I picked the easier of the 2 to replace. Plus, the security checks were enforced but I made it through intact. I am thinking I should have kept my 40ELK when I sold my NH900.

I think it would be a great addition for my RH10 and my RH910 but I can't remember how my test went with the backlight on the RH10 other than I couldn't set it to stay lit all the time like I could with the NH900. I find myself on ebay often looking at those 40ELK. Even with the RH10 I think it would be a good thing cause you can have the RH10 stowed away when stealthing and just check the remote.

If Qwakrz could respond about the illumination functionality on the RH10 or if anyone with a RH910 could speack about this functionality, I would appreciate it! Thanks!

BTW, the Willie and Bob turned out great.

As requested I have checked.

Ok, the light comes on when a button is pressed however there is no way to keep it on 100% of the time. The display button if held in for 5 seconds will cause the back light to come on again without affecting anything going on with the remote so that should be a way to toggle it.

With the 40 remote I have never been able (afai can remember) been able to get the remote to light up when it was on hold.

When I had the NH900 and 40ELK, I always had the light stay on when recording. I also always had the HOLD on the remote and the unit. I think this is an issue with 2nd Gen compatibility with the 40ELK. When I did my testing with the RH10 and the 40ELK, I couldn't figure out how to keep it on all the time, that's why I sold it with my NH900. But, if it will come on with a nudge of the volume or display, it might be worthwhile afterall...

I actually still have all these very questions. Did you find the answers for MZ-RH910 (US) - not other "similar" units??
