Ok guys. My 1st post on here so be gentle with me! wink.gif

First of all I have I've read the Software FAQ above and followed the instructions but.......read on

Just switched from MZ-N10 to the new NW-HD5H

I had been using SonicStage 2.3 with no problems. However, I'm trying to install 3.1 from the supplied CDROM without any success. It installs the first few components successfully until it gets to 'SonicSatge' at this point the installation terminates with the simple statement that…..the installation has terminated. sad.gif

Any ideas!! Anyone else have a similar problem with this software? Any fixes thanks in advance!

P.S. I've also tried to install from the net with similar results.

I had this problem. Then I uninstalled and removed SS directory. Rebooted computer and installed it all again. It worked. Later, I removed that and installed a non-Connect version available in the download section. It worked just fine.

Yes I've tried to remove all SS installation but I notice that in Windows Add/Remove programs it still lists Sonic Stage (1.5mb)!?! Could this be a problem?

have you tried uninstalling exactly as described here? then there should be no more reference to SS anymore...none whatsoever. Once you have done that, directly install 3.1 (no earlier versions first)

try this first... (you could also check whether you have 'ffdshow' installed, other codecpacks, nvidia drivers,...)

greetings, Volta

ps: I'm not pestering you with my questions, I'm just trying to get as much info as possible. I'm no software expert, just sometimes I gt reminded of another thread which mentions the same specs/problems...but anyway, the real software experts do appreciate all the info you can give, as it makes they're 'job' a bit easier...

‘Low Volta’ your help is very much appreciated. As are the comments from ‘physya’.

Good news. I finally managed to install SS 3.1. biggrin.gif

No matter how many times I deleted all Sony SS and OpenMG files and registry data the new installation still terminated.

I suspected it was an issue with the false entry in the 'ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS'. I decided to try and remove these entries as instructed at

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314481

It worked!!! I will now play around with my new NW-HD5H and may even post a review in a couple of weeks. First impressions are very good with a quality of build that make the iPod look like a happy meal giveaway at McDonalds!! wink.gif

I'm glad you've got your software working... that link you provide could also be useful for other ppl (haven't come across anyone else who mentioned he/she couldn't remove SS from the software list, but you never know tongue.gif )

if you can get hold of a digit camera, take some pics from all sides for a pictorial (always welcome) and a thorough product review will always be appreciated!

greetings, Volta

PS: could you please report back on this question: does the 6 band equalizer on the HD5 really not work when playing MP3's? (as was stated by the sonystyle shop and quoted by me in this thread) perhaps you even could do the spectrum analysis from an MP3 played through the HD5 as some superb additional info to that same thread...

Correct. Neither the 6 band equalizer, VPT Acoustic Eng. or Dgtl. Snd Prests functions operate when playing MPEG files. sad.gif

I’ll post some pics. later this week.
