Badger Man
Hello,I'm new and have basic computer knowledge so bear with me on this.....I recently bought NW-A3000, installed the CONNECT software and happily started to use it. Halfway through importing my Sonicstage library into Connect it stopped working. Stalled.I Ctrl-Alt-Del out of it and procedded to try and load it again. Nothing happened.I have now uninstalled reinstalled hundreds of times and all that happens is i double click on the Connect icon, it begins to launch it and then just hangs when the small purple box appears saying Sony Connect. It does not respond. This happens every single time. Despite having uninstalled reinstalled done disk cleanup, defrag. It just wont work. I have also downloaded the update from the sonydigital website extracted the files and installed it that way but the same thing happens. It wont allow me to run the auto update saying that' the source software isnt present' or something like that. Despite the fact that it is present!Any help would be great, its driving me insane. Is there something on my system preventing me from ever using this software or am i missing a file in windows? Thanks for reading this and i hope someone can help. indeego
Try installing the most recent version of Connect Player as described in this thread: You can install Connect, manually! (uninstall your current version, don't try to update your current version).

I have the same problem, but once I wait, it eventually opens up, it might have something to do with my slow PC though. Again this is what happens to me, perhaps you have the same problems.I would recommend installing the update if you haven't.
Guest Stuge
As connect software takes a lot of time to start(on my pc it sometimes takes around 2 minutes ).So u should wait for sometime after clicking on connect(shortcut). Also there is chance that ur installed software is corrupt. So u should fully uninstall it (SOMETIMES IT IS BETTER TO RESTORE UR COMPUTER TO PREVIOUS STATE WHEN THERE WAS NO SOFTWARE WAS INSTALLED{BEFORE CONNECT SOFTWARE} USING WINDOWS XP SYSTEM RESTORE) or DO WHAT "indeego" HAS ADVISED.After that pl tell us whether ur problem is solved or not
Christopher
It's probably just the player itself. You can try reinstalling and then installing the latest updates, but I'm not sure how well that will work. I have heard through my sources that Connect Player updates will come in troves.Seems like the UK is beta-testing the software.
Badger Man
Thanks for getting back to me.I've tried all of these suggestions and still it persists. The longest i've waited is about 5 hours!!Its strange as i had it running and working with absolutely no probs then it crashes and will not work again.I restored settings to 1st november using windows xp but the same thing happens. I'm operating an AMD Sempron 2800+ processor with 512mb memory. So it shouldn't be a case of slow PC.I just don't know what else to do except take it back and get an evil ipod.I can't even get the update to run. Keeps saying that the 'target software isn't installed'. When it is.Any more ideas? I've wasted my whole weekend installing, uninstalling, booting rebooting.....I've mailed Sony, but the customer suport only operates office hours so wont get chance to speak to them. Your my only hope with this.I've managed to transfer a few songs onto the player from my old sonicstage but most of them it wont transfer because of rights information or something like that. If the players do arrive this week (nov 14-16th) in canada, it appears we will be the second beta testers, since japan starts shipping on the 19th.Call me crazy, but would Sony USA be so bold to as delay the players in the US market until Connect player (CP) is stable and relatively bug free? Badger Man
Hi,Here's some further info about this problem. The error report produced by windows cites the following files as having errors when trying to launch:WER099a.dir00\CPlayer.exe.mdmpWER099a.dir\00\appcompat.txtObviously ive got no idea what this means or even if its relevant. From some of your replies it sounds as tho they've shipped the software before its ready and i'll have to wait to be issued with new software. Can i use any other software with this Walkman?I look forward to your comments

Guest Stuge
If it is right that sony has released beta-testing software with new nw-a3000 then i think those who r having NW-A3000 or anynew model should take them to consumer court. As a result of this beta-testing software we have wasted a lot time & money on it.AT least this will give them an electric shock...(Sorry for those who thinks that i`m quite harsh on them)Badger Man in my view u should wait for sony to contact u (as u have already mailed them) .I they r not responding to ur mail then mail them again & again(until they respond) or call them on their Toll free number(depends in which country u live).Have u added information about these "errors" which ur computer is giving in ur mail. willykyu
I was wondering if this is why the A series comes out later than Europe in Japan. Maybe were they waiting for some feed back from Euope about bugs with connect player. But I doubt SONY can have time to change the indtall cds in such a short amount of time. They hit store next friday I guess and are sold on saturday. Maybe than, they will provide a better update... wait and see
mattkennedy
Badger Man I have had the same problem and like you am getting pretty hacked off with connect player having only used good old 'drag & drop' mp3 software in the past!!! Please keep the post updated about any progress you make.Luckily I have managed to get about 5gb on my player before it started to waste a hell of alot of my time. I would love to know why I was able to transfer that much and then it stopped????I dont like being a guinea pig for Sony..........so give us a break!!! jshaw300
Hi there. I bought the Nw A1000 (loving it). The Connect software is basically full of bugs, as I'm sure you are now aware. I did not have SS before, so I'm starting new with CONNECT - but just trying to rip my CD's and edit properties etc. have caused CONNECT to hang on me many times. I have noticed that the demands on the CPU fluctuate wildly, but are usually very high. A few times it has grinded to a halt with 100% usage. And I have a pretty quick PC I use for video editing no problems. Also as mentioned elsewhere the process tinyhttp.exe uses a lot of memory. Although as soon as you minimise the programme it reduces greatly to a more manageable amount.Scrolling through the list of songs is sluggish and prone to jumping back down the list. All in all, I think since I don't have SS, it is nothing to do with that or importing files from it. It is just a poor bit of software. Could be good in the future tho. Here's hoping...
Badger Man
Well here's my update.I decided to send my sony walkman back due to being very hacked off with sony and connect. I'm just about to buy a new ipod video. Been using itunes and its so much easier. There are also so many more accessories available. The only problem i've got now is trying to convert my libarary of atrac music into mp3.......... having looked on internet it seems this isnt possible. So gonna start ripping cds over again.I thought i'd abandon sony as having problems now and no guarantee or confidence that there wont be problems in the future. Its a shame coz i really liked the look of the sony.Never mind. Thanks for your help. Delete everything in the library directory (mine's found here "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sony Corporation\CONNECT Player\Library"). This usually works for me when things don't start up cleanly.2. Once you are up and running, turn off the "background service" in the preferences. Its under internet options. That sped up my load times greatly and made things work more smoothly.Hope those help you out.
willykyu
MY GOOOOD! IT WORKED ! THANX SOOOO MUCH! I was looking for this "library" folder for days! even SONY couldn't tell me!!! deleting it and CONNECT Player opens again! great! The only thing is, if there's this bug everytime we import music and organize and rate tracks, deleting this makes us lose everything every time! time to fix bugs SONY! C_player
Glad to hear it worked out for you. What I've found is this...- Don't scan in, rip, or download more than about 3000 songs into the player at any given time. Putting more songs in than this makes things get slower and slower- Keep drag and drop actions to a small amount of items. Moving around 10 or 20 songs is no problem. Trying to drag your 1000+ library to a device is asking for trouble- Make sure you don't try to do too much on the PC while using the player. The player uses a lot of memory, and trying to use other high RAM software (Photoshop, Word, Outlook, etc.) will really cause things to go slowly or even appear frozen- Don't have your device attached when the player starts. This makes a slow start time happen even slower, as the device and software talk for a while before you can use either of them. Instead, fire up the application, then make sure you can use it, and then it will be OK to hook up the deviceThis is how I use the player and things are more palatable in everyday use. willykyu
Exactly the truth! CONNECT Player works this way on my comp too. There's another bunch of other anoyances and bugs I will list when I have time this week... but it's possible a new soft version's out before. (I hope so...)
