bass_hit
Just got my MZ-RH10 and I love it. I've been putting my entire music collection on Hi-MD (1 Gig and 300 Meg) disks and was wondering if I should sell my Net MD Player? I can use my MZ-RH10 for playback and recording right? My NetMD Player doesn't have a line in or a mic in so it won't do SP mode. Should I sell it (model number listed in signature)?
sebastianbf
If you have a collection of older format minidisc, I should keep it. I think that you can't edit old format mds with the 2nd gen recorders. If you want to record in true SP you should keep it too. It's up to you.Sebastian

It's up to you.Sebastian←if you would see his signature, you'd see he still has a pre-NetMD player which can do SP, while he also said that the NetMD hasn't got a line or mic in so CAN'T do SP
raintheory
I for one am glad I did not get rid of my N707 or NH900 before I purchased my RH10... I have quite a few regular MD's with extra recording space on them that would have basically gone to waste.. I do quite a bit of field recordings, live music stuff, and the fact that the 2nd gen HiMD units wont record on those discs (except thru SS) really makes me wonder if the upgrade to the 2nd gen was worth it for what I use MiniDisc for... IMO, *any 2nd-gen HiMD unit with a mic input should be backwards compatible and allow recording onto regular MD's that have already been recorded onto with a pre-HiMD recorder.. All in all, I guess it all depends on what you use it for.. If you mainly listen to mp3's and dont do much in the way of microphone recording,.. then you should be fine with just the RH10.. However, if you do any decent amount of microphone recording (and have done quite a bit with pre-HiMD, as I have), then there is a reason to keep a recorder that the unit itself can record in LP2, SP or whatnot..EDIT: Just noticed that your NetMD has no Mic/Line-in.. I'd say you probably don't need the NetMD... Anything you want to transfer to your older discs in LP format can be done with SS.. BTW.. What format(s) do you have your collection in? banjo
I'd say keep it. You probably won't get much for it anyway. I sold my old MDLP player off when I got the HiMD recorder and now, for convenience, I've gone and bought one again.I have loads of stuff in SP on old discs and I don't mind carrying a few with me. What I do mind is the poor battery life on the HiMD and the old MDLP devices solve that problem pretty well.
bass_hit
BTW.. What format(s) do you have your collection in?←Before I started using HiMD I had mostly disks recorded in MDLP with SS. I thought MD would be a good format to go with to help the 8 hours that I have to spend at work each day go by faster. I do have a few discs that I have in SP mode (CD transfer of KoRn's Greatest Hits Vol. 1 using my deck, a pre-recorded MD of Aerosmiths Greatest Hits album, the audio track from "Wierd Al" Live VHS). Sometimes I'll use SP for making small collections or if I want to share a CD with a friend that has an older MD player. I also like to use my deck in my home recording studio for personal demos but since I've gotten my RH10 I've been using that. It makes transfering live/demo recordings to my computer so I can edit them using SONAR 4 very easy.As for selling it, a friend of mine wants a player and would pay $50 for my old one. Based on this new info, Should I sell it?

Based on this new info, Should I sell it?←as you still have the deck, I can't see why you wouldn't sell it... the Net-MD can't really do anything the other two can't do better... but selling it to your 'friend' for $50, only if you really think it's still worth that no really, I don't see why you should hold on to it except sentimental issuesgreetings, Volta
bass_hit
but selling it to your 'friend' for $50, only if you really think it's still worth that ←How much is it worth? It works fine and I still have the origional stuff for it. I'm also tossing in some discs (2-5) as well.

(ok, I've got a lousy sense of humor, I know )so please don't mind my remark...greetings, Volta
mcca6392
I have both my silver RH10 and my blue N707 - and I'm glad I kept the latter. At the worst, I have used it (hacked with LINEOUT) to transfer some old songs of MDLP discs to Hi-MD.It's come in handy, for a few tracks I had imported through OpenMG Jukebox, and then lost from my PC. Now, it's a realtime recording, and then an upload through SS, and voila! I kinda/sorta have it back on my computer again.Plus, I don't know - I'm kinda nostalgic for 'vintage audio'.....
