crazydane67
I'm unable to install SonicStage 3.1. This is what happens:The installer goes through it's various installation parts until it gets to the end of the SonicStage Addon install and then I get a message saying "Installation process for SonicStage 3.1 has been terminated". Needless to say I did not click the cancel button. My OS is WinXP SP 2, PC is 2.4 GHZ with 768MB RAM. I am installing using a CD ROM.After further investigating (by installing each component separately from the cd) I've come to the conclusion that it may be the OpenMG Secure Module that fails. When I run the install for it, at the end I get the message "The wizard was interrupted before OpenMG Secure Module could be completely installed". So what is it that prevents it from installing ??? I have the latest version of Windows Installer (3.1).I might add that I previously had an older version of OpenMG Secure Module which came with OpenMG Jukebox 2.2 which I have both uninstalled. I have also tried to delete all Sony directories and edit the registry to delete old references to Sony products as described in this forum but to no avail....so basically I'm stuck Please, if anybody has any suggestions let me know...PS. I have no problems installing an older version (SS 2.0).
The Low Volta
I am installing using a CD ROM.←if your PC has an internet connection, just install SS3.1 from connect...you could also check out this post/thread as for problems regarding OpenMG secure modulehope this helps, Volta
crazydane67
if your PC has an internet connection, just install SS3.1 from connect...you could also check out this post/thread as for problems regarding OpenMG secure modulethis problem has been addressed before, so please search these forum a bit (by using the search function and 'openmg' or something as query)...hope this helps, Volta←Hi Volta.I've tried to install from Connect, the result was the same. I've also checked other posts related to openmg problems. I found one post with a similar problem which was solved by manually removing the SS entry from the registry because it still showed in the 'ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS' after uninstalling it. However, mine seems to uninstall correctly, it doesn't show in 'ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS' but I still get the "install terminated".
The Low Volta
Glad to see someone who has actually read the rules, FAQ's and searched MDCF already, makes me all the sadder that I don't have a real answer...I'm definitely no software expert...sorry.Here's a very unprofessional thought: you say that you can install earlier versions without problems. Perhaps you could try to install an earlier version first, not uninstall anything manually, just upgrade to SS3.1 and let the installer uninstall what it needs to and hope it will keep the working OpenMG secure module... (I have always upgraded from SS2.0->2.3 ->3.0->3.1 without ever manually unisntalling anything, always let the installer do what it thought was necessary... I never had any problems)Well, that's all I can think of right now... hope this helps or that someone with a better software knowledge chips ingreetings, Volta

The thing is, the older version of OpenMG Secure Module that gets installed with SS 2.x apparently cannot be used with SS 3.1 so that gets uninstalled as part of the upgrade to 3.1. All I can think of now is to rebuild my PC from scratch but I really don't want to do that, that will take days.
badchad
I hate for my first post to be a "bump", but I'm having the exact same problem.I've tried to install several versions of SonicStage, and all end up with the same "installation terminated" message. Sony has told me that the problem is with the computer, but I doubt it, I've never had any problems whatsoever. I'll try and keep everyone updated. SUggestoins are welcomed as always. A440
I've tried to install several versions of SonicStage←A bunch of half-installed SS's can be a problem. Look at the FAQ and make sure you've cleared all the old ones out of the registry. Run the MDAC repair tool in the Downloads section on the www.minidisc.org homepage. Disable any antivirus and firewall programs and then try the online installer again. Cross your fingers and knock on wood too. Don't forget to re-enable your antivirus and firewall afterward. badchad
LOL, well sorry about the first post, I should have included some specs.I'm running Win XP Pro2.6 Ghz1.0 G of RAM80G Hard Drive.I have SP2 and all available updates.I followed the instructions on the FAQ and completely cleared out all previous versions of SonicStage. I've tried the 3.0 Version which came on my CD and the updated version from the SONY website. Same result each time (DUring the first install I get sn "installation terminated" message). Antivirus and Firewall are disabled and no programs are running. The interesting thing is that during installation I simply get an "Installation terminated" message when the program tries to install the "Sonic Stage Add-ons" section of the installation. If I run the program again, I can succesfully install. Once I install though I get the error message: "Cannot find OpenMG secure module, exiting sonic Stage" message. I attempted to search the forums with that phrase but got a million hits.I thought the MDAC repair tool was simply for a type of database problem? I'm sure I'll run into that if I manage to get the program running P.S. my fingers have been crossed.
A440
This is how I finally got an incredibly uncooperative SS 3.1 to work after multiple attempts at installation. If you can get through the install successfully again, run the online installer one more time and when it tells you Sonic Stage is already installed, tell it you want to reinstall anyway. Then it should reinstall everything including, I hope, the proper Open MG module. By the way, if you have the unit connected via USB, disconnect it. crazydane67
Hey badchad, have you also tried running the installation program for the OpenMG Secure Module separately like I did ? And if you have did you get the same error (The wizard was interrupted before OpenMG Secure Module could be completely installed) ?This is so bloody frustrating, I've tried everything I can think of and searched several forums but still no success... badchad
Crazydane I think I've tried everything. I've tried it all from a clean install (as per the FAQ on uninstalling) as well. Here's what I've tried:1. SS 3.0 from the CD (installation termination)2. SS 3.1 from Sony3. SS 3.1 from this website (I'm failry certain I've ran through all versions)I always get the same result: During the first install I get an "installation terminated" message, and if I try it again sometimes I can get SS fully installed. IF I do get it installed I get the "Couldn't start OpenMG secure module error".The closest I've got is when I installed an old version of OpenMG jukebox (which came with an older MD player, about a year or so ago). I did that and I got to the SS opening screen, upon which it promptly crashed.I'm wondering if perhaps this is due to any of my Windows services settings? (eg start-->run--> services.msc). I have my comp. "tweaked" to run the minimal amount of services. I've never had problems installing or running ANYTHING with the settings however and I've used them for years. If I can't crack this sucker by the weekend I'm afraid I'll have to take it back...darn shame too, I already returned the ipod for this one. crazydane67
I'm seriously considering rebuilding my PC and reinstall everything from scratch. It's just that it will take a long time to do that and I want to exhaust every other possibility before I go down that road.By the way, I wrote to Sony about this and the reply I got was that they have "very limited support at this time for Sonic Stage 3.1 therefore we are prepared to look into this further for you however we are unable to give you a timescale on the resolution". How's that for support...
The Low Volta
I'm seriously considering rebuilding my PC does this mean you have a homebuilt PC and not a pre-manufactured one? If so, just mention that to Sony support and they will have an answer for you: "ah, that's the problem, our software doesn't support PC's that aren't pre-manufactured by some big brand"...but then again, here on MDCF there are a number of ppl using non-brand PC's so SS should be able to run...Volta
stewartb
Ok guys, I've had a reponse from Sony Support about this problem (well I was having a similar problem to you).I've tried what they instructed and it seems to have worked! Sonicstage installs completely without the termination message and I've already imported one CD without any complications.I haven't had time to test the program further but thought it best to post on here straight away to see if their advice helps anyone else out. Here's what they said:"To try and resolve the problem you are experiencing with the Sonic Stagesoftware please can you do the following;Disconnect all USB devices from your computer with the exception of the keyboardand mouse, if these are USB.Click on the [start] button and go to [Run]. In the dialog box type MSCONFIGand click on [Ok].Click on the [startup] tab .Click on the [Disable All] button. Click on the [Apply] and [Close] buttons.Click on [Restart] .When Windows restarts a [system Configuration Utility] warning window willappear. Click on the [Ok] button. Close the [system Configuration Utility]. Insert the Sonic Stage CD into your CD/DVD Drive and then reinstall the SonicStage software over the top of the existing installation. Click on the [start] button and go to [Run]. In the dialog box type MSCONFIGand click on [OK].Click on the [startup] tab. Enable the programs you disabled in an earlier step by placing ticks in theboxes next to them.Click on the [Apply] and [Close] buttons.Restart your computer.Re-try the Sonic Stage software."Of course I take no responsibility if this doesn't work for you (or even makes matters worse ) and you should contact them directly to get the best solution for your own OS.But this seems to have worked for me so maybe it will for you.Good luck! stevejj7
Hello guys,I am experiencing the same problem with OpenMG and have tried all the things suggested in this forum, including a few of my own (tried safe mode and the installer failed on the drivers instead).Has anyone managed to find a solution?ThanksStevejj7
MikeDavis_2
The first thing you should do to troubleshoot this issue, is to completely uninstall SonicStage. To uninstall SonicStage, you need to open the Control Panel, double-click 'Add/Remove Programs', and click Change/Remove next to SonicStage and OpenMG Secure Module. Once you have done this, clear your computers Temp files.Click Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk CleanupThen select the temporary folder and any other files you do not need, and click OK to clear the files. Next:Disable your Norton Internet Security Located in the System Tray (bottom right corner of screen)* Make sure you are disabling the Norton Internet Security. Not Auto Protect. Not Norton Antivirus* If you are not using Norton, disable whatever firewall you are using, excluding the Windows firewall. Delete your cookies (Internet Explorer>Tools>Internet Options>General Tab) Delete your Temporary Internet files. (Internet Explorer>Tools>Internet Options>General Tab)Once this has been completed, please visit www.connect.com to download and install the latest version of SonicStage.(Once your computer reboots, any program that you disabled will be re-enabled.) gatzby
Hi,I had the same problem, but managed to solve it yesterday...The installer kept on failing, so I went looking on my machine for recently changed files, and found some txt files in my temp directory (C:\Documents and setting\username\local settings\temp) that came from the MSI installer with OMGSETUP... On top of those files was the following message :Error 1931.The Windows Installer service cannot update the system file C:\WINDOWS\System32\msvcp60.dll because the file is protected by Windows. You may need to update your operating system for this program to work correctly. Package version: 6.0.8972.0, OS Protected version: 6.0.8168.0I couldn't delete that msvcp60.dll since apparently some program had it in use, so I started killing some processes untill I could move that file to my desktop. Once I moved that file to my desktop, so it was no longer in system32, I ran the installer again, and it worked...Hope it helps you...Nick
