Dodge
Hello everyone. I am new to this message board and found it very informative. However, I haven't found the answers I've been looking for and I would appreciate your advice and comments on this issue. My brother has a Sharp MD-MT190 he use for backing track in his band ( works great ). However, he is looking for a second MD player as a backup so I would like to know which model should I buy. I'm thinking of a Sony MD with backlit LCD. The reason for needing 2 players is to avoid the constant switching of disc between songs. I'm sure there is a proper device out there for his purpose, but we are talking big $$$ here. Lastly, what is the alternative of using Laptop.Thank you all in advance for your replies.Dodge
The Low Volta
welcome to MDCF Dodge,he could use a Sony RH10-> that is a Hi-MD and can take a lot more music on 1 disc (1gig discs) so he wouldn't have to change so often...and it has a lit OLED display on the recordergreetings, Volta
A440
For new backing tracks, a laptop isn't a bad idea--the display would tell you exactly what you're doing, and you could store them in .wav rather than SP (at best) as on the Sharp. But with a new Hi-MD, you can also store .wav-quality pcm files--90 minutes on a 1GB disc--and play back the SP or LP2 tracks already recorded on the Sharp. RH10, with its lighted display, would be good. If he wanted to vary the pitch, NH900 has digital pitch control. It also takes an external battery pack to eliminate battery-life worries. He could also get a lighted remote like the very useful RM-MC40ELK.

ozpeter
But the chances of the laptop having a usable sound input are close to nil, unless I'm being very cynical. You'd have to add some kind of external sound card to get the equivalent quality of a Hi-MD mic or line input, and the overall cost would be likely to considerably exceed a minidisc solution.
