baxtheskunk
How does the non-manual volume setting during record work? Does it involve compressing the dynamics such that it's better to use manual rec. volume for highest fidelity? Thanks.

A440
If you record music with a lot of peaks (like a thumping drum, for instance), you will hear the auto gain whooshing through the recording as it tries and fails to compensate. Auto gain is pretty much useful only for speech. Manual volume with good headroom is far, far better for recording music.
