Transferring Pre Hi-md Files

I've just bought a new sony 710 and am attempting to transfer files from on my old minidisc's to my pc. I've got my entire backlog of cassettes on older style MiniDiscs and would rather not have to re-record them on hi-md (in fact with the 710 I don't believe this is an option). Has anybody got any ideas?

please read the uploading FAQ's...pre Hi-MD files can only be analoguely rerecorded in realtime...no (digital) uploading possible at all, not even with a Hi-MD-player as clearly stated here

Belive it or not some very early portables did actually have an Optical OUT (probably in the days before people even thought about Music Piracy. If you are lucky enough to have one of those then do it that way Optical out ====> Optical in on the HI-MD device.

If the unit is old enough you might not even have SCMS to worry about --although that's fairly easily bypassed.

Otherwise with relatively little loss of quality use the TOTAL RECORDER method of you've got a decent sound card in your computer. (How to do this is explained in various threads on these boards)

(I know the original poster was mentioning a 710 -- but this post is for anybody iwho is still using using ANY Pre NET-MD stuff).

I still think the sexiest looking portable unit EVER was the old RZ-90 --Easy screen, scrollable / navigable on the main unitdecent backlit remote, lovely tactile feel, built like a battleship, external battery possible.

OK O.T but I had to mention it.

Cheers

that is the analogue TR-method which could just as well be performed with the free Audacity, as pre-HiMD recordings can't be played through the PC by USB->SS-connection which is necessary to do the realtime digital upload commonly refered to as "the TotalRecorder method"

read this for the way to upload... and this to learn about the (digital) TotalRecorder method which won't work for pre-HiMD recordings
