Initializing

Last week I upgraded my SS 2.1 to the new 3.1 version, only to find out that once installed, my HiMD-recorder is still working, but my Network Walkman NW-E405 is not. I got the message that it needs to be initialized. I looked in the SSHelp, but once arrived at the TRANSFER screen, the right side of that screen is not active.

So I deleted the SS 3.1 and installed SS 3.0, from the cd-rom that came with my NW-E405. But the same thing here : I need to get my NW-E405 initialized before I can use it, but cannot because I cannot follow the steps as explained in the SSHelp : the right side of the TRANSFER screen is still not active.

When connected to my pc by USB, the SS recognizes my Network Walkman, it even shows how much storage space is left, but it is not working !

Can anybody help me out here please ???

I have done that, but the problems still exists : the right half of the TRANSFER screen is still not active when my NW-E405 is connected to my pc, so I cannot apply the steps to initialize as mentioned in the SS HELP.

When I click the TRANSFER button, I can select the NW-E405 (which is recognized as ATRAC Audio Device (E) ), but when I try to click on it, an error message appears, telling me that "the connected ATRAC Audio Device must be initialized to be used with the currently installed SonicStage".

Strange thing though is that I have the same problem when I install the SS 3.0 from the cd-rom that came with the NW-E405 !!!! My guess is that with the first installation of the SS 3.1, some file or patch stuck to my pc and is now preventing my NW-E405 to work .....

Any ideas how to make it work ????

I still have problems initializing my SS3, but there seems to be a solution but you need the 'end-it-all' programme .

What you have to do is 'kill' the following:

omgjbox.exe

ssaad.exe

ssdbconnection.exe

ssscsisv.exe.

Then in your SonicStage folder (windows explorer) double-click on omg1t2. Then when that has finished (might say something about DB already converted) log out (or reboot). It will now work.

If the same thing happens just repeat the above steps. I can guarantee that it will work.

Oops, sorry !

WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL, incl SP 2

INTEL PENTIUM 1,50 GH

480 MB RAM

USB 2.0

SS 3.1

Holly crap, this actually works! biggrin.gif

I was a bit sceptic, but hey, Windows is a very strange beast, so I gave it go and it worked exactly as you said.

I almost gave up on 3.1, so thanx a lot for this workaround/solution!

  • 6 months later...

hi,

My system is an HP Pavilion t480.nl,

AMD Athlon 64, 2 GHz

512 MB DDR

USB 2.0

Windows XP Home Edition

SS 3.3

Sony mp3 player NW-E405

First, SS3.0 did not detect my NW-E405, while Windows Explorer did.

Then I reinstalled SS3.0 without effect

Then I upgraded to SS3.3

SS now detects the device but reports the error mentionned by allewedertje:

SonicStage (00000452-9094)

... you must delete all tracks in the ATRAC audio device or initialize the hard drive of the ATRAC audio device

First, I tried to delete all files, but the file 04CNTINF.DAT in folder OMGAUDIO doesn't delete. Then, I found this thread, and followed the instructions, but I couldn't find the files ssdbconnection.exe and ssscsisv.exe. I nevertheless executed omg1t2, and it behaved as described. But SS 3.3 keeps reporting the same error.

thanks for any help. now I have delete the music from the device, I don't even know how to use it...
