emeb
Greetings Fellow HiMD fans,Over the weekend I got a notice from Sony that Sonic Stage v3.1 is now available. You can go here to check it out:Sonic Stage 3.1I grabbed it and tried a few basic operations with my MZ-NHF800 and all seemed to work. One nice new feature is that PCM tracks are optionally saved in .WAV format when you upload them. Going further, I used it to copy a new CD to an MD80 in HiMD format (300k). That works fine too, but when I tried the various track listing apps available in these forums they broke on the new disc. I opened up the trkidxXX.hma files in a hex editor and found that they are pretty much empty (the artist field did show up, but no track names). Interestingly, the track information shows up fine in SonicStage, so it must be encoded in the main data file somewhere. Also worth noting - there's a new file in the Hmdhifi directory - Text_gXX.hma - but it doesn't seem to have anything interesting in it.So, Looks like Sony's messing with us. Ain't it fun trying to keep up with proprietary systems? Eric
marcnet
Interesting.....Could you zip up all your hma files from the offending disc (except the really big one) and either put them on a http server for me to download or PM them to me via this forum. It might also be useful to include a small text file detailing what the tracks are (name, length, format, etc)I am currently working on a new version of HIMDRenderer which incorporates the functionality of HIMDLister, so any information on this "new" format of hma file would be most useful.Thanks. dex Otaku
it's interesting that they'd be able to switch the way metadata is stored sort of midstream. You'd think it would break compatibility with existing units to do so.

LupinIV
I confirm the presence of the new file, too.I checked a newly SS3.1 formatted Hi-MD and it containsthe TEXT_G01.HMACheers
marcnet
It turns out that all the track data is in the trkidx02 file ... not the trkidx01 file. For some reason HIMDLister is not using the 02 file. I think it has something to do with the timestamps on both the 01 and 02 files being the same. But if I force himdlister to open the 02 file, all tracks are listed as usual

On the actual HiMD disk the timestamps are as follows:-rwxr-xr-x 1 ericb ericb 32768 Jan 1 2004 _mdhifi.hma-rwxr-xr-x 1 ericb ericb 32768 Jan 1 2004 mclist01.hma-rwxr-xr-x 1 ericb ericb 172 Jan 1 2004 _0010012.hma-rwxr-xr-x 1 ericb ericb 172 Jan 1 2004 00010012.hma-rwxr-xr-x 1 ericb ericb 65536 Jun 25 15:10 text_g01.hma-rwxr-xr-x 1 ericb ericb 327680 Jun 25 15:11 trkidx01.hma-rwxr-xr-x 1 ericb ericb 32768 Jun 25 15:12 mclist02.hma-rwxr-xr-x 1 ericb ericb 327680 Jun 25 15:12 trkidx02.hma-rwxr-xr-x 1 ericb ericb 36044800 Jun 25 15:12 atdata02.hmaSo there's 1 minute difference between the two trkidx??.hma filesI'll try forcing the lister to use the newer one on my end to see what happens.Eric
MDGB2
Use Simple Burner. 'Tis much easier.
emeb
Well, Sonicstage 3.1 has become unreliable. Running the application causes all manner of errors dialogs to appear, so I've uninstalled it. I tried re-installing 3.1, but the online installer terminates before completing.I've dropped back to the version that came on the original installation CD with the MD and that seems to work fine. Also, now HiMD Lister cause my machine to bluescreen. Meh!Eric
bri
Would it help if you used the full download of SS 3.1 from the Downloads section? I had a problem when upgrading but tried it again (with online installer) and it seemed to work fine.http://forums.minidisc.org/downloads/details.php?file=21 (I presume I can link directly to this?)I close all other draining aps when using SS...seems easier not to give it an excuse! emeb
bri:I tried the full download from the Downloads section of the forum - it aborted complaining that I needed to download the WMP9 codecs. (I already have WMP9 installed). The online installer gets through the download, extraction and part of the component install (OpenMG) before terminating during the SonicStage app install.kurisu:I've got an AthlonXP1700 with 640MB DRAM on an ECS mobo running Win98SE. Plenty of HD space in both C: and D: partitions. Latest patches from MS, WMP9, Directx9. I am able to install and run Sonicstage 2.1 and SimpleBurner from CD w/o trouble.Could it be that the SS3.1 update is looking for a previous install of SonicStage? I had uninstalled everything and cleaned the registry prior to trying to install it.
bobt
As Much as I like 98 SE, I think you will probably need to go to XP, preferably XP-Pro.Good luck
