Clowster
Can anyone help? While transferring audio files from Hi-MD to PC using SonicStage, the files were unexpectedly deleted from Hi-MD disc.(I know I didn't click delete by accident, and the transferring bar appeared like normal, but only one the last audio file was transferrred...the rest lost)The disc now says there are no tracks.Does anyone know of a way to retrieve these from my disc if deleted? Also,I have looked at my disc as a removeable drive, and I see many .HMA files. What are these?I have been reading many posts around these files, can these be converted to .oma files so that SonicStage can read them?Any ideas? The Low Volta
welcome to MDCF Clowster, bad news, those recordings are probably lost forever, as noone has been able to find a way to restore them (not even from the disc as a removable drive)...to see how to prevent further ruined uploads, we need to see what went wrong:- what version of SS are you using (anything <2.3 is unreliable for uploading)? what are your PC specs? what other programs were running? (just read these rules for posting (software) problems/questions and post according to them with the most thorough description of the problem you can give (every detail can count)- have you uploaded these (disappeared) recordings ever before? (Sony allows only one upload and erases tracks if uploading is tried a second time)please post as detailed as possible... greetings, Volta
Clowster
welcome to MDCF Clowster,(this thread really belongs either in the "live recording" or "software support/faq's" section of the forums, so I guess the mods will be moving it there...)bad news, those recordings are probably lost forever, as noone has been able to find a way to restore them (not even from the disc as a removable drive)...to see how to prevent further ruined uploads, we need to see what went wrong:- what version of SS are you using (anything <2.3 is unreliable for uploading)? what are your PC specs? what other programs were running? Can this be right?I also have Wav Converter V. 1.0 and MD Simple Burner V. 2.0The OS of the computer I was working on is Windows XP Professional with SP2 only.CPU is 1.8GHzWith 256 of RAMAt the time of the transfer, I had Microsoft Outlook open, along with max 2 explorer's.On bottom bar, MD Burner, Win Zip, Quick Time Local Connection, Sound, Anti Virus..etc. icons ,is always displayed. I had tried once before... Does Sony really erase if you try again. If so thats plain stupid on their part? Can I do anything with the .HMA files on the disc?Cheers, Clowster
Killroy
Hello,What's still not clear to me: did SonicStage succeed in uploading the tracks at the first time? If yes, then they ARE in the SonicStage library and you can re-download them to your disc from there. And no, the .HMA files on the disc are of no use for you. Although they contain all the tracks and associated information, they are part of a proprietary file system that is accessible only by the unit itself and SonicStage. Even if you just copy this files to your computer and then back to the disc, the disc becomes unusable and you have to format it!Cheers - Killroy. The Low Volta
I had tried once before... Does Sony really erase if you try again. If so thats plain stupid on their part?they'd call it "copy-safe"... we call it "give us back our rights to our own recordings"-stupid ... but indeed, that would be the problem, just erased them as you tried to upload them againas you were thrying to upload, I guess that you do not have the recordings on the PC anymore ...otherwise use them (and if you only very recently erased them...use PC inspector file recovery to recover them from your HD)Can I do anything with the .HMA files on the disc?nothing whatsoever... noone has yet succeeded in doing something useful with the Hi-MD-data contentsorry, Volta

Not knowing which was which (as these recordings were passed onto me to do) Ithought I would delete them and try again (renaming the tracks on MD and transferring)This I now know erased them, and I unfortunately deleted the first files from the PC.This happened 3 days ago, so I guess.... I will try the file recovery.Any suggestions of where to look or how to use the file recovery softwares?ClowsterI have just saved the .exe application for pci_filerecovery, I don't want to offend... but is it a safe/reliable program, as microsoft prompts me by saying 'its an unknown program with no certified' something or other. The PC is my works computer, and is linked with a large server.CheersClowster Edited June 30, 2005 by Clowster

The Low Volta
hm, no idea actually...have a look at the user manual/faq's of the file recovery to check how it worksbut the main problem could be getting these back into SS... I hope they will be recognized as belonging to the library... but we can deal with these problems when (or better if) you can recover them...VoltaPS: I do think it is as "safe" as any program that will dig into the "darker layers" of your PC can be... meaning, if I needed to recover files, I would use it... but I won't use it just for fun. It was also recommended by another member here on MDCF (I think A440, but don't know for sure but it was someone I sort of trusted)...so I have it downloaded as some sort of safeguard... but I haven't had to use it yet.
