Did I Just Obsolete My Mz-n707

Hey all,

I just picked up these two things:

SP-CMC-2A Cardi mic

SP-SPSB-9 Battery Boost (No Bass Roll Off)

The problem is I will be using them with my MZ-N707. Is the MZ-N707 now my weakest link? Will the recordings still not be optimized because of the outdated MD unit?

Thanks

I think that there is something that transcends equipment and is more real than our incessant babble of units and accessories - it is of your actual ability to record. Practice, practice, practice. If you become truly adept with the N707 and then you are dissatisfied with your recordings, based on the standpoint that things do not sound acceptable to you, then consider an upgrade. Not only will you learn more from this experience with your current unit, but when it is time for Hi-MD then you will be truly ready.

I would recommend that you record as much as possible in various situations, upload samples to the gallery and ask for opinions, and make topics about your experiences and discuss what you had problems with or what could've been different. This will help you evolve maturely and in the most proper manner.

the only thing that makes it really all that weak is:

Not being able to upload digtally, and

Not being able to record in Lossless

Unless you MUST have these, then no, Kurisu is right, you should see how it fits your needs.

Try some recording. Do some tests that you can junk. Chances are you'll be happy with the results you get.

Your weakest link is recording time. There's an audible difference between SP and LP2, and ideally you should record in SP: 80 minutes maximum. If you can live with that, use Manual Volume rather than AGC and think carefully about good mic placement--since those are cardioids and directional, you don't want to be swinging them around--you should get fine results.

I have just bought that exact same mic & battery box only I am using them with MZ-NH900 recorder. You will not be disapointed I tried mine out at a recent U2 stadium show & was blown away by the results.

I recorded about 8 hours at a folk festival a couple of years ago with a cheap Sony mic and a 707 various distances from the source, and was blown away by the quality and definition. It's a great little recorder, but I would definately recomment going HiMD, either an NH900 or NH1, or the MZ100 looks nice, as it comes with a decent mic and headphones and soundforge.
