Lp Mono Mode Recording

Hello,

I received a MD recorded in LP mode with the intention of recording the music to my hard drive to master to cd-r. To my chagrin, neither my Sharp MD-MS722 or Pioneer MJ-D707 players/recorders would play the MD. Both units support double time recording/playback in monaural mode. The displays indicate LP: and "not audio." for each track I select when trying to playback the MD.

My Sharp operation manual says, "MiniDiscs recorded in the monaural LP mode cannot be played on other MD players." Great, but why? Does anyone know why this is and if there's a way around? I checked the faq under the MDLP category and point #7 leads me to believe my decks are non- LP machines, based on the LP/non-audio displays. This confuses me since according to the manuals both my decks claim to support LP mode. Point # 7 also mentions a feature call LP stamp, and that it can be disabled. How is this feature disabled and in doing so will the MD magically start to play? I'm as perplexed as a bag of cats! Can anybody clue me in? Also, if I should've posted this under a different category, please advise which one.

Thanks,

MR

Well, sorry, but as the manual says, a non MDLP player can't play MDLP tracks, you'll just have to accept it. rolleyes.gif

The decoder chip inside an older machine can't interpret LP2 or LP4 recordings - they simply weren't designed to read this future format. The only way round it is to get a newer MDLP capable machine - anything made after the year 2000 would be OK...
