Ss 3.1 - Moving Library Location

Hi,

I'm using Sonicstage 3.1 and have an NW-HD5. I'm about to start ripping my CDs but only have a small amount of space left on my current hard-drive. Therefore I can only rip some stuff but should be enough to get some music on the walkman for now.

At some point in the near future I will be purchasing an external harddrive for use in storing all my music and media files and will be using this as my main library drive for Sonicstage.

I know I can specify another location to store my imported files for when I get my external hard drive but how do I move all the transferred files on my current harddrive over to this new location and get Sonicstage to recognise them again?

I have experimented by transferring files and folders on my current hard-drive but, once moved, I go to play an imported album in my Library SS asks me to state the location of the tracks. To do this for each track I’ll have moved will be a nightmare!

I have also tried using the File-Import-Scan Folder option to scan the new folders to pick up the tracks but this creates duplicate entries in the Library List (with none of the alterations to Artist name etc. that I made to the original file details).

I’d love to get the external hard-drive now but just can’t afford it for a few months yet, so is there a solution to move my library easily once I do?

Also has anyone else experienced any problems with moving their library to an external hard-drive and have any hints and tips?

Thanks in advance for any help! biggrin.gif

you'll need to use the sonmicstage backup tool provided with sonicstage. simply finding the *.oma &* .omg files will void the DRM. you'll need a fair bit of room for the backing up at least temporarily.

Thanks.  biggrin.gif

I thought I'd have to use the backuptool although wasn't sure. I take it I can use my HD5 as the storage for the move?

Also, probably a thickie question, but what is DRM?  unsure.gif

Windows recognize the HD5 as a removable disk in Windows Explore. Thus, you can definitely use it as a portable medium to transport data other than music.

DRM --> Digital Rights Management is a term referring to technical methods used to control or restrict the use of digital media content on electronic devices. The media most often restricted by DRM techniques include music, visual artwork, and movies.

The principal argument of DRM: as a necessary tool to prevent revenue loss due to illegal duplication of copyrighted works. Of course, we have been "shouting" that transferring control of the use of media from consumers to a consolidated media industry will lead to loss of existing end-user rights, as well as stifling innovation in software and cultural productions.

If you follow the woes amongst digital media users, DRM technology offers no case-by-case fair use rights per se. This is because a technology cannot discern what legal restrictions and rights apply to a specific jurisdiction, usage context, under an external contract, or to an individual author, owner, or publisher.
