Archonis
I have been a fellow MD owner for about 2 years now ... I have had an MZ-N510 for those two years, and it served me quite well, except for some minor problems. Now I have seen how competitive the market has gotten, and I wish to get something with higher capacity.I wasn't sure if I should go for Hi-MD, but after looking at the RH910, I am almost sold on it.My question is, is it worth if for me to move up to the RH910?I will be listening to mostly MP3's on the 910, as converting to ATRAC is a hassle for me, and most of my songs are MP3 anyways.Just wondering will the sound quality of MP3 on the 910 be worse than ATRAC on my 510?And what about the general construction and durability of the 910? Is it a fragile unit?I know it's thinner than my 510, which I like, and that it has a digital amp as well as the equalizer, which my 510 doesn't have. I also know I will have less battery life on the 910 than on my 510.Lastly, what about the jog dial ... is it designed for long durable use, will it hold up as well as my 510 in general, and how comfortable/convenient is the jog dial? It seems that since it's 5 way, it's easy to do something you did not want to do. Any added thoughts and opinions would be appreciated. Heero Maxwell
"Just wondering will the sound quality of MP3 on the 910 be worse than ATRAC on my 510?"You have the same quallity as the 510. You have all the atracs bitrates, the same as your 510 and the new ones that compress more.
sebastianbf
I have read in the forums that the quality of the mp3 playback on 2nd gen units is not as good as the atrac playback quality. In 2nd gen units you can record through SonicStage in non-Himd mode but you can only do this in "fake sp mode" (same as lp2) , in lp2 and lp4. You can still record in real Sp mode by using digital, mic or analog inputs.

This is available only on the 1st gen Hi MD...@Archonis.. Welcome to MDCF..IF you are looking for the rh910 for mp3 playback only, i suggest look elsewhere. there are known issues with mp3 playback on the rh910 and the rh10... other than that, quality of atrac is awesome.. the rh910 is an excellent recorder.. if you do record, then the usefulness of this device is high.. the jog dial is not 5 way.. its a roller actually.. there are 2 buttons on either side of it.. i have the rh10.. very similar to the rh910 save the OLED screen. the build quailty should not be a problem i think.. search the forums for more information on this..for playback of mp3's only, this might not be the best device IMHOcheers Edited July 24, 2005 by veezhun
