Alex1947
Get a Y cable from Radio Shack/Maplins.←Thank you for response. Do I use headphone connection on MZ-RH10 and with Y cable connect to receiver's audio IN left and right?
KJ_Palmer
Yes - the RH10 has no line out as such (mode or jack). If you turn the volume up to around 27/30 and make sure the sound setting is EQ Off, you should get a reasonable "line-level" signal... Do I stress MD's ampifier and can I use that connection for hours. Also I understand that receiver can be adjusted by volume independently up or down. KJ_Palmer
Well, you can use that connection for as long as you like - there shouldn't be any more stress on the MD's amp than if you were using normal headphones. The 27 is only a suggested volume setting - try a bit higher and lower to see how it sounds. If the MD's volume were much lower you'd have a noisier signal coming through to your receiver, ie. a lower sound quality. Much higher or with EQ on could lead to distortion and/or clipping. That's why its easier if you have a "Line Out" mode.....So it's all about getting the balance right between the MD and the receiver - of course you'll need to adjust your receiver's volume control independently of the MD.... I have another question if posible.I have collection of more then 40 MDs in standard MD mode. What would be the easiest way to transfer my MDs in HI-MD mode and have adventage of reformated disks in Hi-Md mode with much more space. It looks like that the only way is to connect my old MD and copy to new Hi-MD and than transfer by USB cable to computer and then from computer back to new Hi-MD in ATRAC3 Plus format. KJ_Palmer
You're very welcone Alex! You're right, the only way to get old MD stuff into Hi-MD is by copying it in realtime. A bit of a slog, but old MD was only really designed to only go one way with recordings. If you can get hold of the original CD recordings, say from libraries etc. that would be a better way of doing it. You'll lose a lot of quality if you copy your MDs via analogue... Record from old MD to Hi-MD in whatever Hi-MD format you want and leave them there. Or, if you have a line-in on computer, record to the computer (with Audacity, from the Downloads section) and then transfer to the Hi-MD.Either way, your problem is going to be track marks. You can try recording directly into the Hi-MD with Sync Recording On and see if you get track marks in the right places. But you may have to add some of them with the Track button. Or if you use Audacity, you will record one long file and then you can try opening it with CDWave (www.cdwave.com) which will guess at where track marks belong. After all discussion and help I got, I realized how easy answers were on both of my question. I tried and works perfect.1. To connect MZ-RH10 to playback through receiver, as I was told by Kevin, the RH10 has no line out as such (mode or jack). Turn the volume up to around 27/30 and make sure the sound setting is EQ Off, you should get a reasonable "line-level" signal to connect earphones jack to your system (receiver / amplifier).2. To transfer old MDs in to HI-MD mode and have adventage of reformated old disks in Hi-Md mode with much more space, just connect your "old" MD deck with optical cable (RadioShack #1501597 6-FT Digital Cable $6.97) to your HI-MD and setup recording in Hi-SP (2h 20' on 80min disk) or H i-LP (10h 10' on 80 min disk). Enjoy your old music and have 2 or 6.5 times more music on same "old" disks. One more time thanks to Kevin and A440 for help!
