Question

Really been put off by the bad reviews of the connect software. I want to buy one for my son for Xmas unfortunately there not many choices for colours, the only one in the shop is violet. I am just wondering if any of you have bought this model, what do you think of it? I have read you can use sonicstage instead of connect. I intend not to install connect when I buy it and use sonicstage instead. Do you think it is a good idea? I am only interested in something that works. He wants this model in blue because it is small and has a radio. The NWE 507 is very similiar but uses sonic except the NWA 608 has 2 gb. Any comments welcome.

I bought it, it's gorgeous, the sound is excellent, and it's quite easy to use. I love it. There is absolutely no problem in using Sonicstage instaed of Connect player. But I had problems when once my tacks transfered with SS, you can't use Connect player. You have to reinitialize the player. But it's not a problem I guess. It's a copy/delete/replace device. Perfect for sports for example.

I think it's still better to have 6xx instaed of 4xx and 5xx, as it can read more codecs (new atrac bitrates), you can upgarde it soon to even have WMA, and well, you still have these new shuffle options, taht will certainly work someday (when they will give us a TRUE Connect player, and not a bad joke). Anyway, better have the last of the series, right?

Thanks for this, at least I know I have the option of using sonic instead of connect which suits me fine as at the moment my old windows 98 SE (please do not laugh) do not support connect. I am still waiting for the right time to buy a new computer. Son cannot wait to get it. I will tell him to use sonic instead of connect. Are there any advantages of using connect, the players are very similar? It's apity in UK, I have seen them only in violet.

I'm in the uk, you really should just buy off the internet, I bought my sony nw-hd5 off www.amazon.co.uk. I think i have seen the model you're looking for at www.dabs.co.uk. If it arrives and you dont like the colour, you can normally return it within 30 days, if it hasnt been used. To give you an idea of the price differences, buying the hd5 from a sony shop was 200 pounds, whereas on amazon it was 175. If you arent afraid off buying off the net, go to shop genie .co.uk and search for the model you want, it then comes up with the etailers that sell it and their prices.

The cheapest you could get in UK, it's £150, but they appear to be out of stock.
