MZ-NF810 PROBLEMS

Am having problems with my MZ-NF810. I first noticed it when I hooked it up to the radio and started recording, and about five minutes later I checked on it, and it had switched itself off. I tried again and the same thing happened. Now it is doing the same when playing MDs; it takes a while to recognise them and start playing them, but when it does it plays them for several minutes and then switches off and when I try to start playing the MD again it won't.

I did have a problem with the unit not closing, but I bent the catch slightly and now it seems to close just fine, so I don't imagine it's that.

The unit is about 16 months old, but hardly used; it was never any good for transferring via SonicStage or Simple Burner as it always conked out just near the end of transferring an album, but it always recorded and played with no problem.

Any ideas anyone?

Maybe try a new battery?

Well I shall try that, though the indicator showed there was life in the exisiting one, and I'm pretty sure that when I was recording I had the thing plugged into the mains, so I don't really think it was that. Thanks anyway and I'll let you know what happens.

Well I tried that and thought at first it was the answer, but it wasn't. It played the first six tracks of an album with no problem. I turned it off for ten minutes, turned it on again and it wouldn't play track 7; it showed track 7 and the title of it, and the little disc icon was turning round and the unit was whirring as though it was trying to play it, but in the end it just gave up. My considered technical assessment is that it's knackered.
