Crowfriend
Greetings all, I go 'round and 'round trying to decide. If I buy a used sharp 722, do you reccomend an attenuater or battery powered mics? What would control the mic level? Is it the Battery pac? How do you know what setting? How long will the battery last during live recording? What is the best method to upload to PC? Would the sonic upload programs work for non sony?If I bought one of the new sonys with high low sensitivity, do I need a powered Mic?Does anyone have the 722 or possibly a sony rh10 (I think it's called, similar to a 900)Sorry to ask these basic questions but I got to start somewhere and I really appreciate any help. Roamer
Taking those questions in order 1. Could depend on what's being recorded (voice/acoustic/rock/metal ?) and the mic sensitivity.2. Attenuator and/or MD.3. Battery provides power.4. Experience ...5. http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sharp_MD-MS721+MS722.htmlShould last for a day ..6. HiMD . But if this a Sharp, then you can't upload with SonicStage, so a desk with digital out or analog. Check sticky posts, there is plenty of info ...7. No. See above.8. Mic-in provides 'plug-in power', so you don't need powered mics with a model that has mic-in, but if you want to go line-in, you will need external power on the mics. The Low Volta
hi crowfriend, welcome to MDCF,for answers to all questions about the basics of the format... the Minidisc.org faq's are a good readonce you understand the difference between MD (minidisc), MDLP and HiMD, read this thread as it will teach you that only HiMD will allow faster than realtime MD->PC transfers of your own recordings (through USB) and if you check the minidisc.org equipment browser you can see all HiMD models currently available (all Sony!)for reviews/comments/experiences... look at this subsection of these forums or use the search function as there are a whole lot of posts/threads with recommendations/reviews alreadyhope this helps
