Sorry, some registrations, topics, posts & personal messages got lost due to a recent series of unfortunate events.

Yes, you can use NiMH rechargeables in the external battery case without problems and no, the voltage does not have to be higher. I think you're confusing it with the power adaptor dc input, which indeed needs a higher voltage (3V).

I read that the battery in the side car needed to be at a higher voltage than the 1.2 volt internal

Side-car? Heh, i like that.

Yes, i think it's 100% safe. I use 2500mah 1.2v Ni-MH's in mine with no issues.

Where did you read otherwise?

Alexx, I have seen this as well in one of the manuals somewhere. I think it is $ony covering there backs incase something goes wrong. I have used Ni-MH batteries in all my MD equipment including the external case with the RH10 & R900 without problems.

On here I think....

It said something like the side car is used to charge the battery inside, which is used to power the MD player. Thus the voltage in my side car -_- must be higher than that of the internal cell
