Consequenses of deleting optimized files

Hi - this is my first posting, so be easy on me...

I have all my songs in MP3 format on a desktop. I use an ipod on the desktop and a net MD minidisk on a laptop which has access to all the songs on the desktop through a home network.

When I transfer songs to my minidisk, SonicStage creates a duplicate "Optimized" file on the laptop.

Once the song is in my minidisk, I can not see any reason to keep this file on the laptop since I could still access the songs via network to their original MP3 format.

Anyone got any pros and cons from just deleting these "Optimized" files which SonicStage creates.

Will it mess up the software if I just use Windows Explorer and delete them?

delete them through sonicstage just to prevent any problems.

The only downside to deleting the optimized files, is that they will have to be re-imported and re-encoded if you need to transfer them to MD again.

In SonicStage 3.2, you can click on the "Settings" button in the transfer screen, and go under "Advanced" where you can check the option to "Delete the converted files from the hard disk after transferring", which will (in theory) prevent SonicStage from keeping the optimized files stored on your computer. You may still have to remove the shortcuts to the files from my library, but be sure to keep the option unchecked when it asks if you want to delete the music file from the computer (as I think this refers to the original mp3/wav/etc. file).
