Problem: SonicStage 3.1 Installation Issue

XP Sp2 and updates

p4 cpu

After getting a blue screen with win nmd and ss1.5 I uninstalled it as per forum instructions and repair installed xp.

Downloaded 3.1 installer but it cuts out everytime at about 4.7MB into the sonicstage part of installation. Installs the registering bit, the openmg bits and then nada. Download terminated. What is it with this software it doesn't like about my pc landscape?? Everything else is fine. Do I have to reformat just to keep sonic stage happy?

Before you say install 3.2, why is that going to be any different? There must be a reason for this cut out but I can't see any help for it anywhere.

welcome to MDCF,

what would be different with the installation of 3.2 vs 3.1 I dunno... but why trying to install 3.1 when 3.2 is that much better?

so instead of having trouble with the very limited 3.1 you should at least try to have some trouble installing the better 3.2

but a thing to try is the standalone (no internet required) SS3.2 installer you can find here at the downloads section, perhaps it works...perhaps it won't, in which case you should try to describe your PC landscape a bit further, as this actually is quite limited info to work from (codec packs, virus scanners running, firewalls, windows skins...)

Thanks for the reply. Bit of a delay getting back to U ...sorry. Real good to see there is a standalone for ss3.2. Always felt bound by the net download. This way it's easier to back up the exe and the fear of cut out half way through wasting good time (and again). Jumping from ss1.5 to here is strange, not knowing the outline features of previous versions.

The ss3.2 download and install went off without a hitch. Imported 3 cd's, titled in CDDB fine. Transfer to net md, fine. Next day I installed a Creative Audigy zs Platinuim pro ext. hub and soundcard. No problems. Then later I fire up ss3.2 to test import cd post soundcard install. I get a 'COM Error 0x80004003' using CDDB. I shut down program and after closing I get this error ...

omgjbox.exe - application error

'The instruction at 0x07aa3504 referenced memory at 0x07e236a0. The memory could not be 'read''.

Click okay to terminate program.

A similar error in Simple Burner(ss3.2 included) ... 'Accessing CDDB : mdrcreg.exe' 'Instruction at ..ditto'

This does not happen opening and closing ss3.2 or SB. Only happens if connection is active and cd is put in drive. CDDB is then activated. No other CDDB or Freedb based software has this error connecting to the database.

(Winamp, Nero6, dBpoweramp, Musicmatch)

Intel P4 CPU, Intel mainboard.

1G Memory

No Codec packs (that I'm aware of) though I have individual codecs in various places. AVG Anti-virus, ZoneAlarm Pro. Sony MZ-NF810

No other problems. (and ss3.2 looks like a pretty good package this time) ...suitably impressed. (except for the above errors). Can they be solved?

Creative Audigy zs Platinuim pro ext. hub

Is this a multiple-USB hub? SonicStage gets touchy about sharing. It's best if you connect the MD to a USB port directly on the computer.

Another suggestion is to uninstall SS one more time and install it now that the Creative Audigy is already installed. (If you've assembled a Library already, use the Backup Tool under Programs/SonicStage, just in case).

I got a Creative Extigy a while back and its software was very grabby--made itself the default player, etc.--so maybe the Audigy has grabbed something SonicStage needs.

The card is not usb, basically everything else but. My MZ-NF810 is connected via MotherBrd port. I did think when I got that error I should've installed ss3.2 2nd ...especially with creative software, it is damn grabby I totally agree. Between the two of em I don't expect that to be the end of it somehow. A ss3.2 reinstall seems to have everything in order now.

I did get this error after uninstalling and rebooting "A Fatal error has occured. Reboot your computer to try and fix the problem. If rebooting does not correct the problem reinstall software". I did this, rebooted to see. Same error. Carried on to reinstall ss3.2. Fine.

Thanks
