exedore
As with another recent poster, I'm looking to buy my first MD recorder thanks to Minidisc Australia's sale (once they open to international orders, that is). I'll be recording mostly theatre type performances, so lots of loud music and soft dialogue. Unfortunately, price is a major issue, but I also want to have good quality. After looking around, I'm thinking about going for the RH700, but was wondering if there was a better compromise?
greenmachine
Good choice. Regarding recording quality (and this is all that really matters, isn't it?) it should be on par with the higher end models.
A440
Uh, wait a second. If you're talking about the RH710, then that has only line-in, not mic-in. You'll need an external box--battery box for loud, preamp for not so loud--to record. If you're talking about the NH700, then: go for it. Christopher
Welcome, exedore. He's definitely talking about the NH700, as Minidisc Australia doesn't have any second generation units. What's your maximum budget, exedore?
bobt
Eith the price difference between units if I were me I would go after the 900, it would fit your needs very well.Actual I am me, and for myself I will be getting another NH1, and possibly a 900, can't lose at those prices, and the Australian dollar is at 70 cents to the Cayman dollar right now.Happy hunting
exedore
First off, thanks for all the advice. What's your maximum budget, exedore?About $200-250 including mic. That said, I stumbled onto an event coming up next week that I want to record, so waiting a week for international sales to open + who knows how long for shipping lost being an option...wound up ordering a 910 from J&R ($170, free shipping) and the inexpensive binaural mic that seems to be so popular on the live form (around $50 incl. shipping and clips). I figured that by the time shipping and (potential) customs were added in, it would cost about the same. The reviews on the unit looked pretty nice, so I hope it turns out OK...
