Playback Audio Compression

Hello All,

I attempted to search the forums for audio playback compression - forgive me if this has been covered.

Are there any portable MD players offering this feature? I'm still using my old but trusty MZ-N505 NetMD Walkman, which does not have it.

My car CD player has a compression option, which is terrific for maintaining consistent audio levels throughout loud and soft passages in the music. This is especially helpful when you have background noise.

In addition, I listen to music at work every day. I don't want to annoy coworkers when loud passages come on, and I move around enough to make wearing earphones impractical.

Thanks,

Nylo

Thanks for the replies. It'll be the feature that gets me to finally upgrade, perhaps, and try HiMD. The longer I wait, the more the technology matures.

I bought my '98 Ford Expedition second hand, and was delighted to discover the compression feature in the factory CD player.

I leave the portable on the desk at work, with an adaptor cord connecting the headphone output to the AUX RCA inputs of my desktop stereo system. So you see, I'm not wearing the player around.

Also, I have a homebrew external battery pack connected to it. A 2 D cell gizmo. See a recent message in the Technical Tips forum on this and how to build it. Someone else has also posted pics of one they built.

Regards,

Nylo
