Hi. I'm about to purchase a Sony mz-rh10 (Hi-MD). I'll be recording with a mic (AT822) and need to get a wav file onto my PC. I hear horror stories about Sonic Stage!

Questions:

- Can I just transfer it via the usb cable?

- Do I need the Sonic Stage software if I'll never transfer files FROM the PC TO the minidisc?

- What's the difference between a pcm file and a wav file?

Thanks for your help,

David

hi and welcome to MDCF David,

to answer your questions:

- yes

- and yes, SS is needed for downloading (PC->MD) AND uploading (MD->PC)

- in theory, if they are bit-by-bit perfectly transferred nothing really

and to further ease your mind:

there were lots of probs with SS, but with SS3.2 and now 3.3 the whole process is more or less safe-n-easy

just remember not to edit on the recorder prior to uploading and make sure you have either one of the two SS versions mentioned (3.2 or 3.3, just check the downloads section) as they allow multiple uploads
