Does anyone know if Connect Player is available to download anywhere? I have checked the ususal Sony sites but they only have SonicStage 3.3.

As always Sony releases new hardware shipped with new software but no-one else has caught up. When will they communicate effectively?? It is still unknow as to whether the connect player will be HI-MD compatible, however, from what I have read it should be compatible with all Sony portables, including the new walkman phone.

CONNECT Player is now live --> check out this thread at our sister forum, ATRACLife Colloquium for instruction. *note: some may encounter problem with installation - if that is the case, please refer to the discussion within the noted thread

Please note: before you guys ask, the new CONNECT Player does not recognize any Hi-MD unit and it appears to support unicode *somewhat. No registry edit is needed to display language other than English (for example: Japanese, Chinese and etc). However, there's a need to employ AppLocale to ensure proper playback of music tracks encoded in language other than English (or Roman characters).

*read this post for further details.

Cheers Ishiyoshi,

I followed the links, installed Connect player, imported some music, messed with the settings and removed Connect player.

To be honest SonicStage is better and has HI-MD support, as well as support for all Sony's other portable players. The Auto updates didn't appear to work either, but that could be a firewall issue.

Connect Player issues:

It's clunky when you have a lot of tracks (I have 4,000+)

When importing tracks if you have a .OMA and another version of the same track it will import it twice

Compilation albums get jumbled by Artist

File save options i.e artist/album/track is confusing to say the least "%S % T"???

Oh and the big one it doesn't support any devise other than the A Walkman range!!

Message to Sony, ipods are shit everyone love itunes. Connect looks nice but what's the point of having a consolidated walkman range of really great hardware then having different and useless software for each device. It just doesn't make sense..... all it acheives is more itunes users.

I think I will wait for the official Sony Connect download, i imagine that by next week they'll be on version 2.x

lets wait and see if sony officially says its compatible with md and hd* series things, otherwise theres not much point in downloading the connect player, if only to say it sucks. Has it been stated that the new connect player is good 2 go with the older non A series devices?

Greg,

As I’ve mentioned in the preceding posts, CONNECT Player simply does not support/recognize Hi-MD, the HDx series and other known Network Walkman period.

As for performance issue, I think it is plausible to state that this is because many users installed CONNECT Player via the update module manually. I believe this factored into its instability. But of course, there are other variables – one such is that “TinyHTTP.exe process.”

Let's hope the official public release will be more agreeable. Stay tuned. IPB Image
