KirbySaysHi
Hello, folks... I'm new here, but I've read most of the sticky's and things that I thought were relevant to my question, and while I've gained some knowledge, I don't think I've found my answer yet.I've been trying to find a recorder for cheap off ebay, and found an MD n505, thinking that it could record from a microphone. After reading around here, it seems that that is actually impossible. When I tried hooking up an sm58 the recorder complains about not having a digital signal. So, I figured I'd ask here, before trying to find something else. I read about battery boxes... will that solve my problem? If it would, does anybody have any recommendations on which box to get? Thanks in advance... one of these days I'll just buy a HI-MD and call it a day. But that day is not today.Kirby***EDIT: I forgot to say that I performed "the hack" successfully. greenmachine
A battery box supplies electret mics with power, but doesn't preamplify in any way. Unless you plan to record high SPLs exclusively, there's no way around a preamplifier. It's propably better to invest in a model with mic-in than an external preamp imo. KirbySaysHi
Thanks for the reply... I feel that I have been screwed again. Oh well, I think this time I'll buy a HI-MD. Any suggestions where to shop for the US?
