Why does nero use the FFDShow filter for encoding?

I just noticed when I'm transfering songs onto my MD, that as soon the conversion to Atrac starts, a little icon of FFDShow filter (wich I installed for watching movies btw), pops up on my tray, until it finishes the encoding of the song, it goes away for a second, and comes back again as soon the next song is started to be encoded:

Why so? Doesn't have SS its own encoder? Why use windows preferred? I have no complains btw, I like FFDShow, but I was just wondering...

Most likely you have the audio codecs in ffdshow enabled, which by default set themselves to high priority overriding most other codecs, so most apps will try and use it to do decoding of mp3's ect.

You can disable it by running ffdshow audio decoder config in the start menu and disabling it's support for mp3 ect. (or uninstalling / reinstalling ffdshow and unticking all the sound codecs in the install options)
